RE: Go North East: Latest News & Discussion - March 2018
I took a short ride on the 74 to and from Newcastle Eldon Square today. Mercedes Citaro 5304 operated the route today in both directions. A comfortable and enjoyable ride. I was using a GNE Adult Return ticket, so I was limited to using the 74 in both directions. The bus was late in both directions, but departed Eldon Square almost on time after I boarded to come back.

Anyone know how long the 74 has operated?

Are the any plans for NSAs on Tynedale Links?

I would imagine it would be quite a challenge to drive a Citaro on the 74. The small bridge near Stamfordham springs to mind. Hexham depot have operated this service since Arriva days, except for a short while when it was operated by Go North East's Winlaton depot after GNE won the contract from Northumberland C.C. At the time Hexham was still with Arriva.

The 74 has ran for a number of years between Newcastle and Stamfordham areas and was originally a PTE route.

The 74 is regularly operated by a Solo or a Citaro. I am surprised how popular the service actually is, perhaps a full-size bus is more appropriate. I only travelled a short distance. I would use the service more if they ran it more frequently. A return ticket on an infrequent service is not a good experience.

Thanks for the information. I only recently discovered the existence of the service. I wonder if they will continue to run it.

I wonder how many people travel from Hexham/Stamfordham to Newcastle?

I don't know why I only recently discovered the 74.

Bells of Stamfordham don't seem to have any issue with the roads around Stamfordham with their fleet of about 10 or so full size coaches.

On the app it shows 4899 has been stuck at Wardley for 20 + minutes. Has it broke down?

RE: Go North East: Latest News & Discussion - March 2018
The 74 has been around in various forms since Adam was a lad!  When I was involved, it was operated by Rochester & Marshal (R&M) of Gt Whittington - part of the now defunct Moor-Dale Group.  They operated a number of routes in the area.  Hexham to Morpeth via Ponteland and Whalton.  Hexham to Newcastle via Matfen and Stamfordham.  Hexham to Matfen.  They also operated the 689 Hexham to Consett.  Tyne Valley Coaches as Mid-Tyne Transport used to operate twice-daily through service from Bellingham to Newcastle via the Military Road.

I used to do the 879 which followed a similar route to Hexham for R&M

High praise from customers after North East’s severe weather
As the Beast from the East - and its later ‘mini’ successor, inflicted disruption upon the region’s roads during February and March, Go North East customers commended the award-winning company for pulling out the stops to keep its buses moving.

Go North East produced a special version of its internal staff magazine to thank all staff for their efforts during the weather, which they have also published online for customers to read:

6122 still working for Chester-le-Street. A loan with no rush to return with Stanley having a higher number of vehicles than they require or the first transfer?

Ok. I think i saw 6136 on scholars this morning - its getting quite easy to identify as it is one of the 3/4 that haven’t had their side destination displays lowered yet.

RE: Go North East: Latest News & Discussion - March 2018
Think there has been an accident outside Cooper Rose with a black cats streetlite. Roads all closed and ambulance police in attendence.

This is purely speculation.
RE: Go North East: Latest News & Discussion - March 2018
672's NSA's are running a stop behind where the bus is actually at

Many of tje cobalt clippers with boster boards have posters. Since the subway poster has been talking off most buses many are left with just the rear poster. Go north east have however made an effort getting 6101 a new poster for the nearside that being for duck duck goose but not the offside. Probably as soon as the next side posters come out the cobalt clippers with poster boards will have them.
Also 709 has now transferred to percy main and is allocated to the newly won W2.

How on earth has the cyclist come off uninjured?! There's obviously been a big impact on that front windscreen.
Very, very lucky.
