Tyne and Wear Metro
I am very sorry for everyone who has been delayed this week. Last night there were numerous incidents across the network which caused disruption. Firstly we had a train which had to be taken out of service at West Jesmond due to a problem with the doors, followed by two different trains which had to be held for paramedics to attend unwell passengers. Unfortunately these incidents happened at rush hour which compounded the delays and the time it took to regain the normal timetable.

I appreciate I cannot always answer your questions fully on here and following your feedback from the last Ask Metro session, we would like to invite you to come along to the Lit & Phil in Newcastle (located a few minutes walk from Central Station) on Monday 30 September from 6pm – 7pm. Directors from DB Regio (operators of Tyne and Wear Metro) as well as Nexus and Nexus Rail will be there to answer any questions you may have about the service including recent work that has taken place , train performance and work that is going to take place in the future. We will also be handing out tea and coffee.

Walkergate station modernization works:

Source: nexus.org.uk

Work has started to refurbish Walkergate Metro station in Newcastle, including the installation of a new passenger lift for the first time.

It is the 11th station since 2010 to see major refurbishment delivered by Nexus as part of the £389m Metro: all change refurbishment programme.

At the same time Nexus, which owns and manages Metro, is starting the refurbishment of lifts at two other Newcastle stations – St James and Regent Centre.

Raymond Johnstone, Director of Rail and Infrastructure at Nexus, said: “Our station refurbishment programme is focussed on improving accessibility first.

“These important projects will ensure that we maintain and improve Metro’s record as a system that is easy to use whatever your needs, as well as providing a more attractive waiting environment.

“Walkergate has a steep ramp to Platform One which was built long before Metro was opened, and which can best be replaced by a lift because of the station’s local setting.”

Nexus is building a temporary access route and staircase to Platform One so that the station can remain open while building work is carried out over the next six months. This will be in use from the end of September.

Information has been posted at the station and sent to local business and schools advising of the change. There will be limited evening platform closures later in the project, which is being delivered by contrctor Balfour Beatty for Nexus.

Work to replace lifts at St James and Regent Centre, delivered by contractor Kone, will continue until November. One platform lift will remain open at each station.

RE: Tyne and Wear Metro
Since when has it been the £389m scheme? I thought it was 385...
Does this additional £4m account for the money they've given to Arriva and GNE because the Metro is terrible? :p

Service has now resumed and trains are running between Monkseaton and North Shields in both directions but are subject to delay. This was due to an ambulance attending - See more at: http://www.nexus.org.uk/#sthash.yNOsJ1Co.dpuf

5% over 4 years is shite, and is well below average private sector increases as of late. I'd be pretty peed off if my union recommended acceptance of an offer like that.

http://you.38degrees.org.uk/petitions/vo...-and-twita

I can see the idea behind the petition and agree with some of the the points raised, but after the organiser has complained about how much money has been spent on Metro reinvigoration, it will be the taxpayer (again) who will be paying for the Dft review.

Very ironic...

On a slightly different note, who decides on the quality of vehicles used on Metro replacement?
Is it Nexus or the operators contracted to supply the buses?

I wonder what other kinds of ideas could the organiser come up with, rather than spend more taxpayer money on the system in the way of a review.

Has anyone else had the Survey Monkey link for wifi on the Metro?

I would attach the link, but having completed it, it won't work again

The one I got was about putting wifi on the Metro.

they need to sort it out first before they include WIFI to the complaint list... don't know why they didn't just buy new trains..
