On a morning, no.

Providing the bus stays on the same running board this afternoon, it will be allocated to scholars service 856 and 878, which does the 16:20 #X21 (Newcastle - Durham) journey.

Firstly, good ride, nice power and some added variety.

However, the trim on the seats is absolutely shocking, something I'd expect from GCT or a school bus company. Seats are dirty and completely worn, many are torn to bits, especially on corners. Really disappointing they've been allowed to enter service like this, especially on a high profile route

I do like the Omnidekkas, and have been pleasantly surprised with how they've performed (so far) up here.

I do agree with you on the interior. Having used a handful of them down Brighton this year and last, I was surprised that they've made it into service up here, without being re-trimmed first. I can understand not willfully wasting money to have the GNE moquette if not required, but there should be no question about it being required in this instance.

Just because they're second hand buses should not mean they must look like second hand buses. When the Vykings came up, the interior refurb made the world of difference.

I believe the Scania OmniDekkas will be returning to Saltmeadows Road for a re-trim.

The reason why it wasn't done over the summer months related to the high amount of vehicles required for extra work taken on (and hence the requirement to get these buses on the road as soon as possible!)

No question about it being required, but the work had to be undertaken during a quieter period.

Can anyone tell me which boards the Red Kite deckers normally operate?  Thanks in anticipation.

Not on the aforementioned running board. Operated scholars service 888 this evening, which does the 1650 X21 after a short 93.

I'm hoping you'll be able to work out the bits in the middle!

The buses are subject to be swapped over and replaced with other buses during the day if there are delays to service - but those are the boards they should be allocated to from start of play. Without looking back, I'd assume some of the afternoon departures get the buses in Consett before the scholars peak, just in case anything goes horribly wrong. They'd be able to remove one of those Volvo B9TLs from service and replace it with a single-deck or minibus.

However; as Robert can vouch for, the appearance of Volvo B9TLs on St. Bede's scholars services are few and far between.

I certainly can!

As for the bits in the middle, do the Red Kites still have that extended layover in Consett that caused 5409 to be added to the PVR? If so would, for example, the 12:00 #45 from Newcastle getting to Consett at 13:02 go back out on the 13:27 45 to Newcastle or would it go onto the 13:17 46?

The bits in the middle for the above running board are:

12:00 #45 (Newcastle - Consett)
13:17 #46 (Consett - Newcastle)
14:30 #45 (Newcastle - Consett)
15:54 #46 (Consett - Newcastle)

Without looking, I've no idea if the rest follow that pattern.

Okay thanks - that will help, I might just work backwards and forwards at the same time until they meet then i'll probably know that I have it right.

Becoming more and more common on night 6s though. Stanley seems to have some slack for using these to replace omnidekkas with nee heating. They become taxis and run light to Stanley bus station at night, always one kicking about, so are swapped if needs be. Seen one on every day, sundays included, more than once in the past 2 months.

Although I'm sceptical that these are recorded as being used, it's certainly becoming more common and will undoubtedly be even more common in these winter months!

All allocations are recorded - it's an automatic process, based on the information the driver has to input into his/her ticket machine, in order to sell tickets.

From this data, reports can be generated to determine which journeys have been operated by a vehicle which is neither the preferred vehicle type for that service, or the preferred alternative vehicle type (if any). Further analysis can show the type of tickets which have been sold on that journey, how much cash has been taken by the driver, which stops tickets have been sold at, etc etc.

The aforementioned report picked up on the fact that Red Kite 6120 was allocated to three journeys on service 6 last night, as you noted. It's by no means a common thing - trust me!

You wouldn't believe the amount of things that go on behind the scenes of a bus company!  Smile

I appear to have now filled in all of the gaps - had a bit of bother with the last missing journey or two on Board 3 though but got there in the end.

I don't know why any of you will be interested but I thought i'd say something anyway Big Grin

Oh I wish - I find that stuff more appealing than the buses themselves if i'm totally honest. Its just a shame it isn't one of those areas where enthusiasts have access to every day.

572 was to be used for the route learning at Peterlee bus has develpoed a major fault.  It was brought to Deptford but will probably be scrapped now.  So 571 was brought over to be used instead.

I reckon it'll be axed whenever there's another round of service changes .

Today I travelled on a fab 56 decker, a drifter streetlite and a see it do it merc.

The latter even though is a lot older and has a few more miles on it was a much better quality journey.

No.  It has already been done over the last 4 weeks for all Deptford drivers.  The route learning currently going on is for the Peterlee routes and changes.  Deptford will be supplying some drivers to Peterlee on a temporary basis.
