Go North East: Latest News & Discussion - November 2016

(26 Nov 2016, 8:18 am)S813 FVK wrote Are they thinking of putting it on the X10 (not including the evening and Sunday variation which, if out tomorrow, it will obviously be on)? It seems to have been on the X9 every day so far.

Without the radio, it wont be out. I am dying to know how drivers/control communicate with each other adequately, to pull it out of service on a daily basis. I would have thought whatever method used then (whether its smoke signals, morse code or mobile phone) would be suitable on a night too.

Do double deckers no longer operate on the 9 on matchdays? I noticed last weekend it was mainly Solars

Deptford runs all the service these days and it's all Solars now, as all turns go through the Tyne Tunnel at some point.

Deckers are able to go through the Tyne Tunnel.

I recall that Percy Main weren't keen on running Deckers as Northbound there's a height restriction of 13'1" in lane 2, and buses ideally need to use lane 2 at the Tunnel exit to go to Howdon. All other lanes can accommodate them.

Anyhow, Deptford chooses not to allocate them even on a Saturday when the misc workings the Vykings are allocated to don't run, and there must be a reason for this. They're more likely to be seen on the 20/20A on a match day.

When the 9 changed, i'm sure i read on here, that all the misc workings on the 9 were dropped so it was full Scania, and all the misc workings from the previous 9 were now separate.

The 61 still has a Silver base timetable for the Citaro's (although it doesn't show a Citaro)

I do hope we see Citaro's on them though.

Buslovermam, was it still branded as "Fast Cats"?.

Indeed, i did think about it for a bit and, if the diagram is hinting at an upcoming upgrade to Citaros, they could do it one of two ways:

1) At least 10 Wright Streetlites (presumably) come for the Blaydon Racers allowing 5275-5283/5331 to transfer to Deptford. 5275-5281 would be repainted for the X5 with 5282/3 and 5331 being repainted into the corporate livery. This would allow the 9 to go fully citaro (alongside 5333-5336) and would also give them a spare.

2) At least 9 Wright Streetlites (presumably) come for the Durham diamond allowing 5284-5292 to transfer to Deptford. 5284-5290 would be repainted for the X5 and 5291/2 being repainted into the corporate livery. This option would also allow the 9 to go fully citaro but would not leave a spare.

Im being told the stanley citaros are heading to riverside. This is where rumours really stop meaning anything, just got to wait and see what happens.

Hope so, would like to see a few Citaro routes at Deptford, bet we have wait a couple of months before Citaro's will be allocated to the X5 though, if it's happening.

There's also the spare Citaro from the 35/36, which would allow the X5, 9 and 35/36 to have 2 spares.

They might head to Riverside, it seems a chance because:

1. Riverside already have 33 Citaro's.
2. Depot standardisation
3. 11 Citaro's can replace 10/11 Scania's - meaning the number of Citaro's will increase to 43/44 - they know how to repair them etc, all in 1 depot for spare parts.
4. A upgrade for the Loop or Green Arrow routes, offer free WIFI

------

Although, it's just speculation of whats on order and we won't know whats arriving until the new year.

I do hope we get more Streetlites at Deptford but that seems unlikely.

Yes there is, providing they repaint it of course. Probably why it slipped through the net.

Loop would be more likely unless one of 5337/8 was repainted and branded for the Green Arrow.

Repainted into the corporate livery, presumably for the 9 as it has been hinted that 4961-4964 are to all transfer to Percy Main early next month.

Well so far one has been repainted to the new cooperate livery (5333) and 5333 and 5334 have lost their WIFI.

As for their destination - it's unknown, as we know 691-694 will be allocated to the X6/X7 with WIFI, i was just replying to S813 FVK's post.

Maybe Dan can tell us, but that's unlikely... haha

Hopefully they do, not sure why they can't have a hourly service from Castletown to Town End Farm using it, if it's going to stay branded but i think the buses which have arrived from Brighton and Thames Travel are the priority atm.

Hopefully once all of those are in service (expect for 697 which is arriving next year), other buses can go in for a repaint, mid-life refurbishment before the new buses start to arrive because we all know, some buses are desperate for a midlife refurbishment......

5337/8 are also buses which nobody has a clue about. Nobody knows if they're also being sent down to riverside (37 especially is poor - the steering wheel is 45 degrees off centre when the wheels are straight).

So can we assume 5333 is going to be a spare somewhere or the route it will end up on, won't be a branded route?
If the X5 is going Merc and we forget about the 9 going Merc, then 5333 will obviously be the float for the X5 and 35/36. The balance just needs making up from elsewhere.

If the 9 is being allocated new Mercs over Solars, then I think we will see more 'corporate spares', as opposed to just 5333.

I'm sure i read somewhere that 5334 was also in the new livery... although there's nothing on the news yet.

Where will the 6 Citaro's come from, if 5333 is a spare for the X5 though?

It's a week until the changes take place so not long to wait.

Maybe a gradual change from Solars to mercs. If rumours are to believed and the blaydon racers or diamonds get streetlites next year then there's your possibility.

5333 is the only one which has been repainted - it's still at Saltmeadows Road.

There's the rumours that have been mentioned for the 49's (saw standing loads the other day when the X66 was running in 3's). The rumours about the 27 have gone quiet, but it would maybe be worth trying to work out where those Mercs are going to end up - if replaced at some point in 2017.
