RE: Tyne and Wear Metro
(30 Nov 2017, 6:11 pm)Malarkey wrote Having used the Tube in London back in January on a few occasions I am definitely not a fan of linear seating, would rather not have someones arse in my face, surely having a seating layout similar to the trams in Edinburgh would be more beneficial as that maximises seating capacity, standing space, luggage and accessibility for the elderley, disabled and pushchairs.

I think it's fine for short trips, pain in neck (or legs/ankles/knees), for long trips.

Using the Picc line with kids, cases and bags is fine when it's empty. Pain in the neck when it's busy.

I use the Overground a lot and quite like the linear seating on that. I hope something Overground-esque comes up for tender. The 378s are a nice train.

Apologies for the disruption to your journey. here are no trains running between Monument and South Hylton/Monument and South Shields in both directions until further notice. This is due to an overhead line trip.

Currently there is ticket acceptance on the following buses:
Gateshead - Newcastle: x 1, 21, 56, 57, and 59
Heworth - Newcastle: 27, 88, X9, and X10
Sunderland - South Hylton: Stagecoach 8
South Shields - Newcastle: 27

We will update you as soon as we have more information.

Edit:

We now have ticket acceptance Sunderland - Jarrow: 9. From there you will be able to get the 27 to Newcastle.

Edit: We now have ticket acceptance on the X34 between South Shields and Newcastle, and the X24 between Sunderland and Newcastle. These are Stagecoach services.

Going back to the discussion on the seating for the new fleet.
London Underground's S8 stock (used on the Metropolitan line) caters for both short, full journeys and longer distance ones (ie serving Watford, Amersham and Chesham) by having the horizontal seats you'd normally expect mixed with the standard sideways seating, with plenty of standing space, as the other S stock trains do.
Something like this I would like to see for the new T&W Metro fleet; I'd imagine a fair few journeys are from Sunderland to Newcastle Airport (for example connections from Grand Central) so for a journey of just shy of 90 mins, you'd want to have some more comfort as well as somewhere for bags.

That said, sideways seating would be an improvement from what we have now to accommodate more passengers.

I'm wondering if any platforms may have to be lengthened for the new stock?

I think the Met line is a good example.
Having used it on 'match days' at Wembley, it seems to work too.
Having the flexibility to cope with huge numbers of additional passengers in addition to regular passenger numbers, is key.

Something the Metro could learn from.

Due to a power supply fault between Monument and Heworth there are no trains running in this area in either direction while we repair the issue. We have ticket acceptance on the 27 between Monument and Heworth.

We will be operating trains to all other areas, however the service will be subject to delays.

Updates will be attached to this post.

The earlier power supply issue has been repaired and we are now operating between Heworth and Monument again. There will be delays to service as trains get back to timetable, but there is a frequent service to all destinations. Thank you for your patience.

Due to a points failure there are currently no trains between Pelaw and South Shields/South Hylton, and a large gap in service of approximately 45 minutes between Pelaw and St James. We have engineers on site working to fix this issue now.

RE: Tyne and Wear Metro
We currently have a failed train at Manors Platform 1, preventing trains from travelling from Manors towards the coast. Please stand by for further information, and listen to the PAs at Monument and St James for information on coast trains.

We still have a service suspension between Park Lane and South Hylton in both directions due to a points failure. Replacement buses are currently operating in this area.

Whos running the Metro replacement service between Park Lane and South Hytlon?

Nexus are planning to change the metro station timetables to the same format as that as the bus stops.

There's a consultation on the nexus website.

There are no trains running between Pelaw and South Shields in both directions until further notice . This is due to suspected cable theft.

Go North East are accepting Metro tickets in the affected area. Bus services 26/27 operate between Heworth and South Shields.

Stagecoach are also accepting tickets on all their services in the affected area.

A limited 900 replacement bus service is in operation, calling at or near to all stations between Heworth and South Shields.
