With changes from VOSA appearing, their seems to be ALOT of changes on the 26th January,

By changes:

9 looks to be going every 15 mins between Jarrow - 30 mins to North Shields - replacing the 26 between Sunderland and Jarrow.

26 and short 39's looks to be replaced by a new service 29 - which will go to Heworth. - Every 20 mins?

36/36A/38/38A withdrawn and 39 Shorts withdrawn replaced by 29, maybe 238?

X3 is an interesting one - this may replace the X36.

the 99 AGAIN, i don't think this service will ever work for them.

East Durham network, not sure, i hope we see some merges and an up the frequency - do wonder if the 202 will come back to Sunderland?

Their is still time for more to be added on Monday or even today.

Far to obvious! I don't see why they haven't numbered it the '26' tbh, unless they want to make the changes quite clear or for marketing maybe? Doxford-City Centre every 10 Mins on the 29/39?

Summarising:
New 29 will replace 26/38/39 Shorts: Heworth extension will be Sundays & Evening I would think, with every 20 minutes.
X36 may be becoming the X3 on new frequency.
208 will run to Durham to withdraw 260.
238 maybe will run via Grangetown as a result of new 29.
202/265 not sure what the route changes could be? 202 replacing 209 round Lowhills Road? 265 & 208 maybe change routes/Estates around Durham? Times will change so buses interworking together.

Surely by changing the number, they will be confusing passengers.
Must admit, as someone who has an interest in transport, I have lost track with the numbering system in Sunderland over the years.

Not sure what a regular passenger would think.
More changes?
More route variations?
More new services?

Surely it would be easier keeping the same number and adapting the start/end points, than constantly going circles as in: introduce, axe, introduce, axe...

It is confusing the M1/4 changes were confusing and that simply a renumbering. The last East Durham changes caused a bit of confusing too, with timetables at bus stops not replaced too which fuelled confusion even more. Renumbering should be a last resort.

It's always North Sunderland they can't get right, don't know how many changes over the year's has happened and they always end up with a circular service again.

No idea what will run via the hospital, unless the 29 will have a peak run that way?

There have been a stack of changes in North Sunderland and a person without the slightest bit knowledge in business, will tell you that you need to establish a product in order for it to work...

It is slightly different, but how many variations of baked crisps have Walkers launched, withdrawn and re-launched with a slight variation over the years?
It is just like GNE in North Sunderland.

How changing a number from M1 to 4 be confusing? There was plenty of info out there to say the timetable was not changing.

I can understand why it was done, why should GNE give free marketing to a competitor (bit like Sainsburys advertising Tesco's isn't it)

Wonder if the 265 will start coming round Cornwall Estate again...

Personally I would like to see them serve the Estate here again and cut out High Grange Estate...

I have a feeling the amended route on 265 will be to fully serve High Grange again as the works down there is due to finish...

, they can't get it right, if they didn't chop and change every 6 months then the services might work.

Stagecoach should launch a service going along Castletown, wonder if that would give GNE a fright to start providing a decent service.

I wonder how many passengers stick with Stagecoach, just because they know the service and are familiar with the product they offer?

I think for regular passengers, it probably isn't confusing when services are renumbered. However, I've been at the Galleries and been asked just a few days ago "where does the M1 stop?". It all depends on the person, I suppose...
