The 42A is probably the longest bus service GNE offers. I don't know why it goes all over the place!

Kingston Park to Dinnington is secured, not sure what other contracts are involved.

I would like to ride the 42A sometime, and if someone would join me on such a trip, I definitely would.
The Return fare is reasonable for the whole route, I think. The Single fare is a little expensive.

Transfare doesn't look cost effective. Day Rover looks to be the best multi-operator ticket and best thing is to stick to one type of transport and operator.

X47 to Eldon Square
X34 Pilgrim Street to Whiteleas Bridge Chuter Ede School) (25 mins on a good run)
10 Chuter Ede School to Jarrow (20 mins on a good run)

Connection is not too bad at Chuter Ede. X34 arrives 05/35 10 departs 16/46

To go to Byker, would it be more sensible to walk to and from Newcastle City Centre or to and from Byker to save on the bus fares? Thanks.

I am just looking for some advice on what is realistically the most achievable. Getting the bus only between Newcastle Centre and Byker and walking between home and the City Centre saves the most on bus fares, but means walking much further distances each way.

I am looking at ways of saving money on ever-increasing bus fares (and travel costs in general). Therefore I am thinking from the viewpoint that I might end up working somewhere I can either get the bus to or walk to, but working a full day with all that walking, I need to figure out what is realistically achievable.

Just to avoid any accusations that I am only looking at one side of this, I thought I'd do a comparison for the Town and Route Saver tickets too.



Green is anything within the current level of inflation, Amber is a tolerance up to 3.00%, Red is anything between 3.01% - 10%, and Dark Red is anything over 10%.

I don't know if it's been mentioned that explorer prices have changed. Adults up from £10 to £10.50 but the child ticket has come down again, to £5.50.

Family explorer tickets remain at £20

ANE price increases from next weekend.

For those unaware the "Explorer" ticket went up today from £10.50 to £10.90, driver who issued mine on the 21 was completely unaware of the increase along with a driver on the X10 when he issued one to a passenger boarding at Dalton Park this morning.

I see the Day Rover has increased from £7.50 to £7.80. Were the Explorer tickets issued to you and the other passenger for the old price or the new one, as the drivers were unaware of the increase?

The driver, whether aware or not of a price change, has to issue the ticket at the price set in the machine (which should always be the correct price!)

Thanks for the clarification. Yes, if the machine has the wrong price we have a real problem! Are Go North East increasing their fares too? Arriva, Stagecoach and Network One have all increased their prices.

I guess that Arriva are unaware that the explorer went up, today, because I got mine for £10.50, on the 64, this morning, same as yesterday.
