RE: New Metro & Rail Links
The government's gravy train has already been and gone, money is going to the the rail link to Ashington & the newly Tory area of Blyth Valley, so they can boast about how they delivered it to retain and gain seats.

It's all pie-in-the-sky if they're wanting money from the treasury for their plans.

It's a shame the original architect of these plans didn't covertly copyright their work. With the amount of tikes they've been rehashed and presented as 'new', they'd have made a small fortune by now

I don't think this site should be used for political purposes. For the record, the Blyth and Tyne line reopening has been in the planning stage long before the Conservative Party won the Blyth Valley seat in the 2019 election.

Funding was given for the scheme in 2020 and they've made a song and dance about it ever since. Ashington would be the railhead for nearby Cresswell, Lynemouth and Ellington which are part of the Berwick constituency, so there will probably be more trumpet blowing from there...

The funding may have come recently, but the plans for the reopening of the line go back to the early 2000s. As far back as 2002 I was told by a professional railwayman that the line would be opened by 2005. Of course this did not happen, but the movement towards the reopening was in place at that time. In 2008 the South East Northumberland Rail Users' Group (SENRUG) ran an excursion on the line to promote its campaign which had already been running for several years. As I mentioned previously, this forum should not be used for political statements, and this is especially valid when statements are untrue and, in the case of your latest comment, speculative.

It was 2017 with Northumberland Council turning blue to stick the finger out to Northumberland Council Labour that pushed it more than the 2019 election.

I live on it for the record. It's been in plan in one way or another like someone else said for years. 

That said I'd rather we focused on one realistic line (Leamside) and making improvement to our current likes (ECML and Durham Coast) before fannying around with fantasy stuff like a line through Cobalt duplicating the ever so popular 19 and links from Washington to Sunderland along cycle paths and through gardens. 

The Durham Coast line is shockingly bad.
