September 2022 Service Changes

RE: September 2022 Service Changes
(09 Aug 2022, 8:50 am)Aaron21 wrote If that's the case. Then why can't the 310 serve Hadrian Park if a lot of people use it. And if that's the case then I'd love to know why it never carry anyone when I see it.
Main reasons as you can get the 335/41/41A between Hadrian Park & Station Road (335) & Coast Road (41/41A). But for Newcastle you can get the 310 which would be a lot easier to extend into Hadrian Park than having the 311 which is just the 310 without the Hadrian Park. Or what about putting the 309 & 310 into Hadrian Park. Wouldn't that make more sense than having a route that is just a copy of another route
Putting the 309 through Hadrian Park would be commercial suicide as the "it gans doooon the motaaaway" brigade would soon be all over it (even though the Coast Road is NOT a motorway).

310 likewise, yes totally fine going through Hadrian Park during the evening when roads are quiet. However it would not make much sense at all during the day as the PVR would only reduce by 2x vehicles (both 309 & 310 running every 20 mins each) and the benefits if any whatsoever would be very small going from a 6-7 minute frequency to a 10 minute frequency.

Even if the Coast Road was 'cleaned up' with the 306, 308, 309 and 310 all running every 20 mins each creating a combined frequency on common sections up to every 5 mins, GNE in that case would be better abandoning the Hadrian Park to Newcastle link and Stagecoach stepping in with a 22A (22 every 20 mins to Cobalt and 22A every 20 mins to Hadrian Park).

It would make sense for 67/69 to be ran with the same operator. As with 82/82A services, for passenger ticketing and ease.
I don't think it should be GNE for the total disregard for anything except making money  (never mind dictating to drivers and passengers of whats best)

- 309 - unchanged but every 15 to W.Bay then every 30 to Blyth.

- 310 - unchanged but every 30 mins.

- 311 - Same route to Hadrian Park then old 305 route to Ridley Avenue then same as number 1 to Whitley Bay.

- 317 - Same as current to Wallsend then same as number 1 to Gateshead Metro.

I was soo glad when GNE didn't win the contract for principal and it was their LONG failed services 17/17A, 11 (Blue Arrow), 11 (Little Coasters).

I was over the moon even SNE won the contract. As there is actually a stable operation of bus services between Willington Quay/Tyne Tunnel - Royal Quays - North Shields for once with the 10/11 & 317 (albeit secured).

Tbf to GNE when I used their Tyne Tunnel services I never experienced anything wrong with them.

I agree, the 67/69 would make sense together, though they have enough differences in their route to be separate if needs be. The 82/82A on the other hand I think it would be ridiculous if the 82A gets contracted to a different operator to the 82.

Whats pissed me off is that the 317 was put on to replace GNE's cancelled 11 and 41,then GNE then have the cheek to get funding to re-extend the 41 to Howdon,if i were Nexus i would of told em to get stuffed
Kind Regards

Pretty sure it was Nexus who funded for the 41 to be re-extended to Howdon

The section between Hadrian Park & Howdon was cut in March 2020. So why after 2 years have they decided to put it back is anyone's guess

Plus they cut the 41 back in March from Howdon due to low passenger numbers

I agree. Does anyone know why the 82A could be getting contracted to another operator? Seems silly to be changing it already when they've barely started it.
RE: September 2022 Service Changes
Gateshead Central Taxis has been awarded the 67, 69 and 82A. Very strange to see the 82A changing operators already when J H Coaches has only just started running it. Could the 82 end up going to GCT?

Interesting GNE have lost the 67 and 69 to GCT.

Thats just bad for customers, will there be any ticket acceptance.

Another Loss for customers.
RE: September 2022 Service Changes
What is the deal with this ticket acceptance arrangement NEXUS has with GNE when the decide to xut services? They never had one with Stagecoach or Arriva when the evening or Sunday operator was different to the main daytime operator (as far as I'm aware).

I get why people say it's a good thing. Do NEXUS get a "contribution" from GNE for want of a better word? That feels a bit grubby if so. I can't help but feel we already have a ticket for this scenario. Its called Network One.

However why is the Q3 listed, surely that service is withdrawn. Is that the extend of the changes? or will there be more coming

Councillors have commented to local residents that the 12 is returning to its previous route around Winlaton, on a half hour frequency.
RE: September 2022 Service Changes
Seems atleast 40 new schools routes have been added to Bus Times for GNE, I wonder where they are getting the drivers, and I hope none are based at Washington due to lack of space.

I'm not sure if there will be GNE ticket acceptance in place, but I would guess so if there has been recently with JH Coaches/Go North East as the operator. Nexus day tickets priced at £3.50 will be available.

GCT have not been too bad of late. Disappointing the 82/82A will now be operated by different operators.

Surely the bigger issue is that you've got four services, for effectively one route, now being served by three operators?

Mon-Sat Daytime:
82 Barmston Court to Gateshead - JH Coaches
82A Barmston Court to Birtley - GCT

Mon-Sun Evening:
83 Waterview Park to Galleries - GNE
81 Galleries to Gateshead - GNE

What happened to making public transport easier?

I agree, although I've got to give props to Nexus for stepping in to save everything, it isn't half confusing. Firstly I think all of the above should be handed out as one contract to the same operator given that it's essentially the same route. At the very least the 82 and 82A should be operated by the same company. As for the 81 and 83, I get it that on an evening they're merging the 82 and 25 together, with the Sunday extension to Sunderland to replace the 8. Why though the 83 has to be kept separate when it follows basically the same route as the Sunday variant (but only goes as far as Waterview Park) I don't know.
RE: September 2022 Service Changes
Wouldn't it also be better value for NEXUS to only offer the one contract since fixed costs could be pooled together allowing the operators to go in with a lower bid than if they were bidding for the separate routes?

Don't forget they lost a hell of a lot of work these last two rounds of changes as the existing supported services have been culled in favour of ex-GNE and Stagecoach services, most of which were awarded back to them. Looking on BusTimes seems as though they have plenty spare.

Three weeks tomorrow for crying out loud!

Maybe it would have been complicated for customers if the industrial action for Chester-le-Street had gone ahead and Go North East were communicating service changes at the same time as industrial action disruption?

Keep it simple - one message at a time…

I’m sure we’ll see something announced internally and externally early next week, now that the industrial action has been called off.

RE: September 2022 Service Changes
Are there going to be any significant changes to the 69 in terms of tickets and timetable? I know the £3.50 ticket will be available, but will there be GNE ticket acceptance and will travel passes continue to be valid? I guess the services are staying numbered 67, 69 and 82A?

65 is really intriguing, as is the 39/A/B & 8/8A.

It could possible be extra services for schools.
