Wonder if the 18/18A will be replaced?, be sad to see it go, if it doesn't but honestly not surprised.

Its sad to see its decline though from a service which ran early to late, 7 days a week on a 20 min day time frequency to hourly and a butchered route.

Surely the 18 is being replaced? Parts of Roker without a bus; no buses on Thompson Road, sea Road down to 2 buses every 30 mins.

Shields 17 also listed as cancelled which is strange.  Could we perhaps see mergers of Sunderland and Shields services

So what’s changing with the 6&7 Newcastle service? I drive this route pretty much everyday so hopefully it might be some decent timing changes

I don't know at all but if the numbers aren't there, you could easily send the 3/4 to do the Whiteleas loop as they do on the 1/2, they'd technically get a better service to South Shields than now, every 7.5 minutes vs every 15 minutes anyway as you could go either way round. 8 buses an hour along Stanhope Road I'd imagine is more than enough if it interworked with the 18. The 3/17 are basically timetabled on top of each other.

But if doing that you may as well cancel the 3,4 amd just have the 1 and 2 as you also have the Laygate area to consider which the 17 covers.

They did try this about 15 years ago when the 3,4,7,8,17 all got merged into 43,44 and that failed miserably I remember.

The 7/8 and one of the E's go down Laygate don't they?

Who knows can imagine it being unpopular though if they did to be fair. It does seem pretty overbussed from an outsider around there though.

The 1/2/3/4/7/8/18 all have variations though so you could guess all day if the 17 is cancelled.

Yeah, it's one of those routes people very seldom use for long journeys but rather short hops.
Pennywell/Grindon/Thorney - Aldi, or Roker/Seaburn/Fulwell - Southwick/QA Bridge/Pallion, or even Gilley Law/Thorney/Grindon - Prospect

Then there's the question of what about all them scholars who get on the 18A?

Do many get on the 18A, I never see it, tbf, most of those area's are covered by other services now unless other routes will be changed to accommodate the 18/18A's withdrawal.

Whenever I've done the morning one, it's often a full standing load in the school term. You pick up kids for Southmoor and St Aiden's, as well as a few people going to the industrial estates around Southwick/Pallion.

Ah shame, its going then, unless its getting connected to the 10/11 (although nothing on VOSA for those services yet), as it would make sense due to the area.

3, 13, 16 and 20 are no where near the area (also down for changes) - I take are all timetable changes for reliability?

Services 3/4 are being amended to be end to end services instead of circulars.

The 3 will operate as now as far as Biddick Hall then operate via Whiteleas Shops, returning to South Shields via Whiteleas Way then as service 4 currently does.
The 4 will operate to/from Biddick Hall via Harton Nook, omitting Whiteleas Shops as now.

All other changes are just to timings as a result of the withdrawal of the 17 and splitting of 3/4, as 3/8 and 4/7 currently interwork with eachother as well as 17/18 from 1500 til end of service.

Yeah that's fair then. Had a feeling it would've been merged into them but not that way.

Makes sense though really since the 3/4 aren't really a loop anyway as you can't cross in South Shields and from an outsider it's a bit of a confusing mess the different routes around Biddick.

Bar the slightly longer journey times, there's not really any lost links.

So the withdrawn service in Shields is being replaced by rejigging existing services. However the loss of the Sunderland 18 leaves gaps.

Still the lost link to Laygate.  Yes the 7, 8, 12 and E2 all go there but there all from Nook and Marsden, unless they are gping to revise those routes also and we just dont know yet.

Wonder what will happen to 1 and 2 as those are Nexus arent they?

Aye that's true, is there anything down there for people want to go there? Just a LIDL isn't it, there's definitely nothing in the opposite direction towards Biddick etc.

Quite a few things doen there Lidl as you say, Post Office and Royal Mail collection office a few yards further down in Rekendyke. Police Station, just a few more shops amd pubs (of still open), plus the area of High Shields with no bus services at all.  That whole area needs revised unless you want to go to from Laygate and  Horsley Hill. Harton Nook or Marsden and you can do that in an abundance.

Years ago the old 503/504 did a termination at Biddick Hall and didn't operate a loop service, old PTE days

Aye that's fair, I'm not sure how workable it would be but it's a shame there isn't a way they could make the new 3 and 4 not terminate in South Shields so you can go through the interchange. Would open a few new links like the police station etc direct.

Would be useful if you wanted to go to say ASDA that you could get a bus direct to the ASDA stops and then get back on. Rather than being dumped at the interchange and having to walk there.
