Electric Buses/new orders

RE: Electric Buses/new orders
(29 Nov 2025, 7:35 pm)Malarkey wrote The new Streetdeck's will continue on the 63** Series Fleet Numbers with the full batch being delivered in a revised version of the GNE Corporate Livery and we also have a first peak at the Angel Electrics.

6149 roadstripes are about half a foot further away compared to usual fleet livery B9's, maybe this was done intentionally with a view to updating the corporate livery.

Don't get why they haven't put it in the revised version if that is the plan moving forward as it would be a cost saving.

We have big plans for every bus in the North East to be electric by 2035 ?

We’re well underway. 29 new electric buses will soon be serving three of our busiest routes, the Angel 21, X66 and 58, making almost 100,000 journeys every single week smoother and quieter.

These add to the Zero‑emission buses already running in Sunderland and South Tyneside - now it’s Newcastle, Gateshead and Chester‑le‑Street’s turn to benefit.

This is the next step in delivering the transport system the people of the North East deserve!

Her job is to promote transport for the region and not GNE. Only somebody into buses is going to realise she's not in a Go North East bus so that really doesn't matter.

In this instance she'll be referring to the joint bid with Go North East under the Levelling up Fund and Zero Emission Bus Regional Areas 2 scheme. That was agreed by Cabinet in June last year and was for exactly 29 buses, which is what the press release covers.

When the Stagecoach buses were delivered last year, she posted specifically about those too: https://www.facebook.com/NorthumbriaKim/...9605328719

You's are all discussing the bit she's on a Stagecoach bus but have totally missed the bit where there's a Diesel bus in the photo she used.

Probably would've been an opportunity to actually advertise one rather than a 14 year old E300.

You can barely see the bus, for 99.9% of the local population, that picture means absolutely nothing, and if she'd been sat in an electric bus it wouldn't have registered with them either.

You're right that to 99.9% of the local population that photo means nothing, so why use it?

They could've used the opportunity to show something actual useful; modern interior, USB chargers, NSA screens, or whatever, and actually promote what's good about an electric bus.

Heck, why not wait until one the actual buses actually arrive to annouce this and you know, use one of the buses...? There's absolutely no rationale about announcing it then, it's not a launch event, so why is it needed?

Most the general public couldn't give a toss whether it's fueled on Diesel, Gas, Electric, Moonshine - a bus is a bus, it's what's inside what's important to them.
RE: Electric Buses/new orders
It’s actually where it goes, how long it takes, how frequently it runs and what it costs that matters to the overwhelming majority of the travelling public. What it looks like inside wouldn’t even be a secondary consideration.

Don't disagree but you can't take a photo of any of those.
RE: Electric Buses/new orders
First 3 of 23 New Diesel Wright Streetdecks have been delivered to Riverside Depot and carry a rear tag line of "We're all about the North East". from photos I have just seen on FB, unable to make out fleet numbers due to fencing with the lined up on the VOR Wall nearest Costco.

Hi all..im new to the forum (though long term enthuiast).

It is good to see that GNE is to benefit from the GAG Wrightbus investment as recent times have seen us get lumbered with rubbish from elsewhere. Look forward to seeing these hit the roads.

Do we know for definite what the 4x single decks are to be eg Wrightbus KItes or ADL EV's etc?

And will the Electroliners intended for the 58 be Corp branded or is there a livery in mind (be intrguing to see a Voltra-ish livery on a decker)

Seen this picture posted on facebook, they will be in Voltra livery, there is also a picture of one fully branded up (not my photo).

Many thanks..i did wonder if that would be the case..that actually doesnt too shabby at all!..thought Voltra was the "way forward" for Electric services but until as above see it on a decker..reserved judgment but that looks smart!

Voltra livery suits the decker really well.
Ooo Friend, Bus Friend.
RE: Electric Buses/new orders
imo the Voltra livery is terrible. There's absolutely nothing when I look at it which makes me think electric bus.

The Arriva electric livery (which seems to be abandoned now) might be basic but you can tell it's an electric bus by the colours a mile away.

Similar for the First electric bus in Leeds

Yeah im defo NOT sayng its perfect (it isnt)- trouble is what else could you do as Electric is all about "green" etc and obviously we have the Angel deckers.

I think it looks smart-(if a bit bland/boring) but thats no bad thing- ive read forum long enough to know feelings about from both sides of argument (and old enough to remember) some of the more weird/wonderful liveries GNE have thrown out in past- see Magic Roundabout, Pink Panther, the old "Fab 56/7" series etc

I think obviously going forward in long run- this (whether be Voltra or updated version) will almost become "normal" as companies slowly transistion away to Electric (and alternative fuels) so atm it is still slightly gimmicky as not loads of buses wearing it.

Love it or hate it i think theyve made a go at it and now stuck with it for the medium term at least. All part of "going back to basics" with far fewer specialised services and more generic corporate branding- of which there are pros and cons..

(Yesterday, 3:08 pm)Iamtheone8483748 wrote That photo also confirms that there are 25 of the new diesel streetdecks ordered.

It would also potentially imply the 4x singles are Wrightbus Kites most likely (i know its a mock up image but appears same front as Streetdeck/Kite) and with EY and others getting some..makes potential sense..not that seems any demonstrator for it ever came here

The image of the single decker is an Enviro 200EV from my perspective.

Cheers for confirming.

The more I look at the Decker in Voltra Livery I can't help but think it's a lazy design as I am getting X22/X66 "MetroCentre Shuttle" vibes from when those liveries were around short term on 3941/3942 & 5501/5502/5503 - https://www.flickr.com/photos/adammalark...705616476/

All they've done is add an additional stripe to it in order make the visual representation slightly different, the other negatives I draw from the "Voltra 2 Livery" is the lack of service route branding for the services they're intended to be allocated to.

Lack of fare promoting of the Voltra Week Pass and is there a long term plan to for services 58 & Q3 be added to this ticket offering as currently you can only use it on the 53/54 and is tremendous value at just £16.80 per week in comparison to a Network One (1 Zone) at £25.70.
RE: Electric Buses/new orders
Service route branding? Are you mad? It doesn’t work here because of the tight allocations and GNE have trashed their branding over the past few years. Nobody takes it seriously and it doesn’t grow brand loyalty

And why bother building any route branding when in all reality, you’re probably going to lose all of your work to stagecoach or metro line in a few years when franchising kicks in.

If I was the cynical cost cutting type at head office I’d cut the entire commercial team, I don’t and won’t need them

I see that as a positive.
It gives greater flexibility and will be less confusing to passengers when they are used on other routes.
RE: Electric Buses/new orders
Someone mentioned on FB that the soon to be ex-Angels are for the 307/309. Is this true? I thought the 301 was going back to deckers.

Unless the B9TLs will be used on the 301 instead or....the 301 stays single deck with the B9TLs going elsewhere.
