As Kuyoyoyoyoyoyoyoyoyo has stated, it's 4 or 5 separate routes, split exactly to avoid the need for tachographs and EU driving hours, much like the 4/X4 and X1/X2 (for example) are. It's operated by a Solo, generally a newer one!

The X59 is a once a day run on a Monday - Friday, completely separate nothing to do with Dalesbus. Indeed that one is split to avoid tachos too, running as service 59 from/to Leyburn-Askrigg. I believe it is funded by NYCC, and is operated by Solos too, running on/off different 14 boards.

2868 is one of the two dedicated Solos for the work - the other being 2865.

If the tachographs are not kept within calibration every few years, they cannot be used for EU work anyway. Its very likely they are ornamental now and a throwback of potential flexibility when new.

It was packed and standing when it arrived in Guisborough and left myself and others waiting! All this talk about high management and what have you? As I see it it's just bull****! For years, the 685 Newcastle-Carlisle service was run by Arriva under tachographs, then Stagecoach split their 685 route at Brampton and ran without.

Now, Arriva have split the route (at Haydon Bridge) and also run without tachos.

Whilst there is obviously a loophole (and, it can be argued that the differentiation between services requiring tachographs and those not is debatable), I cannot help feeling that changing the route number of a service that is run as a through route with the vehicle (and driver) continuing unbroken (ie no rest break during the journey) is against the spirit of the regulations and, maybe, even, the letter (regular service on route exceeding 50km).

I realise that there is a 5½ hour limit with a break of at least 30 minutes that is, presumably, not infringed, although there is the alternative option of within any period of 8 ½ hours in the working day, total breaks amounting to at least 45 minutes, but these are independent of whether a tachograph is required or not.

It might have been an inconvenience to have to fit and use tachographs, but the regulations are there for a purpose - or am I being naive?

If a route offers through-ticketing and there is no change of vehicle or driver, then changing the route number/destination board is purely cosmetic is it not?

Totally agree. At least East Yorkshire are making an effort and providing some sort of commercial replacement, unlike Arriva, despite the healthy loadings last year.

Absolutely ridiculous. on a bank holiday weekend. Of course, prior to last year there was always an enhanced service operating at this time of year. I would write to the media. As I've said plenty of times, it is high time they had competition on this route.

And also unlike many other operators who were involved, Transdev for example. I'm intrigued to see whether East Yorkshire can actually make it pay.

There's no excuse for 4651 being on the X93 at that time though... They know the 0925 from Middlesbrough is going to be busy, so a single deck on that diagram (if they have to put a single deck on anywhere!) is less than ideal.

I'm sorry Scott but that response is simply not good enough. They pulled this stroke last year running a MPD on a similar trip; there is absolutely no excuse they can offer, it's just Redcars way of doing things and nothing is going to change, I was prepared to give them a chance this season but not anymore, my spies will be out and about feeding back to me and as Roland says, we'll take it to the media, for any notice they'll take. This is Arriva and no one cares!

As for the comments about Transdev and others operating services to help replace some of the Moorsbus journeys we are really wasting our breath as if it doesn't make money then Arriva simply aren't interested, same as the 93's.

No business will operate something that doesn't make money. Hence nobody operating into the National Park ... I am interested to see whether East Yorkshire can make theirs pay, operating it as a tourist service and therefore ENCTS passes aren't valid, albeit with a reduced concessionary fare. They haven't announced the times or fares yet but the outbound timings appear to be good for onward connections to Whitby or Helmsley.
If I had to bet now, I would say it won't run in 2015 but we'll see!

You can't defend 4651 on X93, no matter what I say! It has been reported to higher up though!

AD122 accepted pensioner passes last year - I don't know about this year.

Sorry Scott, it's not you I'm having a go at but unfortunately you seem to be the only serious link there is to Arriva that there is? It's no use using CS because we know from experience that this is about as much use as an ash tray on a motorbike! Writing direct to area management, in my eyes, seems to offer little and I don't really want a free ticket by way of an apology! Thankfully I don't need or wish to
travel on the 93 regularly which in one respect is s good thing but in another, not, because I can't keep an eye on them! On behalf of the 10 or so people that were waiting in Guisborough this morning and had their days spoiled I would like to complain, but who to that would matter? Out of interest, what's the usual procedure when Customer Services receive a good word about a driver (assuming it's universal across all companies - or at least similar)?
In the same e-mail I mentioned above, I did compliment a driver or two I had on the same day. When writing to bus companies, I do try and slot in a good experience I've had during the day so it's not all negative.

Good luck with Bus Users UK. They're about as useful as a broken leg, and they make Arriva's care-free customer service, and apathetic apologies look decent.

We know it's an enthusiasts forum and all that but then we know just how effective e-mailing Arriva is? I have been vorcifarus I know and this not the place; I should have PM'd Scott direct. But then I was annoyed at having my day spoilt and sometimes you find out things by speaking out and doing things this way? There Is a comment made about going to a higher authority than Arriva? Never had that experience.** Just update my post here based on what Auorelin had to say? That's what I thought but didn't want to fuel the fire!

I think I've suggested before, but why don't you pursue this through your councillors or MP? Election season (at least locally) is upon us, so they'll be more inclined to do something for you. You read stories in the papers every now and again about bus links improved or saved, with councillors or MPs getting the usual photo shoot in the process. Got to be at least worth a try for you?

Right folks, got the X93 stuff out of my skin and a bit apology to anyone not happy with my doing it this way. This though is just a bit of a defence to Arriva and indeed the other operators with regard to the Moorsbus. Much of the blame for the demise of this would in fact appear to cone from the North York Moors
National Park people and the communities/people therein? Operators will, as Scott says, provide a commercially based service if it makes money and provide vehicles if asked on tender/contract basis. Few will gamble unless they have an idea that said gamble is going to work/pay; I feel that's the basis behind what East Yorkshire/Transdev are doing? Essentially we lost the Moorsbus on the
basis that it didn't pay and with the NYMNP
short of cash it was axed, no one bothered to
see if any other bodies/organisations/funding
providers would come on board? My reasoning is based on what I know from the Yorkshire Dales NP and the stuff I read following my ask about the Dalesbus? It seems across there there is a collective of funding providers etc that have come together to provide a quite vibrant and am sure,sustainable network of services across the Park. Here in Guisborough, on the edge of the National Park we can't get anywhere on a Sunday/Bank Holiday using public transport !

Yes, they have them on the side but you can barely read them as its the same colour as the paintwork. Also has the fleet number on the rear.
