Stagecoach North East: Latest News & Discussion - June 2014

RE: Stagecoach North East - Latest
(10 Jun 2014, 8:21 pm)AIG20 wrote Since the Stockton MAN E300s are nearly five years old, they will be due for a repaint whether they have branding or not (which 24101 - 24112 do). I assume that they will be de-branded and repainted before the new ADL E300s arrive, as the new ADL E300s might receive their own branding for the 36,37 and 38 - the services which they will be allocated to.

Hopefully the new branding will be like the current 37 branding NOT the current 36, ie not obliterating the windows!

I hope it's a little bit more impactive than the route 37 sub-branding...

And in addition to the 7 that will arrive from Scotland (22701 the missing one from that list, and 22112 broke down en-route) - 22464/8 have arrived there today.

I'd rather it be less impactive and able to see out of the windows! No reason why it shouldn't be both, mind.

(12 Jun 2014, 7:32 am)AIG20 wrote At least two or three more MAN ALX300s have been withdrawn. However, they are hidden amongst already withdrawn 22464, 22462, 22190, as well as E200 39727 and Driver Trainer 20551 at the rear of the depot.

In addition, South Shields ADL E200 36479 is in the Chassis Wash pit.

Ten MANs in total withdrawn at Sunderland so far (replaced by 28018-27) - 22190/96, 22453/62/63/64/68/90/94, 22675. Photos etc in the news feature on http://stagecoach.mybesthost.com

Closure of Albion Place/ Green Terrace junction, affecting Services 3,4,5,5A,8,10,11,12,13,16,20,23,X1

On Monday 23 June 2014, the Albion Terrace/Green Terrace junction will need to be closed to facilitate highways remarking works.

Last Updated: 13 June 2014 5:22 PM

Weather permitting, this closure is anticipated to be in place between approximately 1130 – 1700 on Monday 23 June 2014, and will affect all eastbound/ northbound buses in the city centre area, and also westbound trips on Services 5, 5A, 8, 10, 11, 16 and 20.

During the period of this closure, eastbound/ northbound buses will be unable to observe their normal Vine Place bus stops, and will instead be required to divert via Stockton Road and Burdon Road, temporarily observing a bus stop near St.George’s Way on Stockton Road.

Eastbound/ northbound buses will continue to be able to observe their normal Fawcett Street, Borough Road and Athenaeum Street stops.

Westbound trips on Services 5, 5A, 8, 10, 11, 16 and 20 will also be affected by this closure, as they will be unable to access Green Terrace. Customers for these routes are advised to use the previous bus stop along the line of route, located on Holmeside.

Clearly, whilst we will be endeavouring to operate all services through this area in accordance with their published timetables, as well as continuing to liaise with our colleagues at Sunderland City Council to mitigate any problems, there is nonetheless the potential that some trips may be subject to localised delays.

Stagecoach would like to apologise for any inconvenience these works by Sunderland City Council may cause, and we remain grateful for customers’ patience and understanding.

Services Affected: 3, 4, 5, 5A, 8, 10, 11, 12, 13, 16, 18, 19, 20, 23, X1

Have the other 2 gas buses just arrived or did they arrive last week?

Sorry i have being away for the weekend, trying to keep up!

(16 Jun 2014, 2:58 pm)Richard Smiles wrote Hopefully when the Local Press report on the Appointment of the New Operations Manager @ Stagecoach in Sunderland, they will be able to spell Smith. Rachel Geliamassi has or is about to depart for the South of The Country taking up a New Post as Operations Director.

The New Operations Manager @ Sunderland, takes up her post next week having moved from Stagecoach Cheltenham & Gloucester. It was Rachel of whom was involved in organising the Open Day for The GAS Bus Launch in February of this year.

Let's hope she doesn't make massive changes the services! Tongue

(16 Jun 2014, 3:13 pm)Richard Smiles wrote Only Arriva do that Michael. They (Arriva) Changed things on Teesside in February & less than six months later they are messing around with things again. The Stagecoach Network on Teesside tends to be pretty stable. Passengers know their service numbers & the Frequencies at which they operate.

God help my former Colleagues in the Teesside (Local Authority) Public Transport Unit, having to change the timetables at alot of the Bus Stops yet again. They may as well not bother, given Arriva's constant changes to their Timetables.

The whole stagecoach network seems to be the only stable one, i don't think there has being massive changes to any of the Sunderland services in years, by that i mean, such as massive route changes, withdrawals etc

All weave had is the odd frequency change on Sundays

Same as Newcastle and South Shields i think

(16 Jun 2014, 3:28 pm)Richard Smiles wrote Years ago, you would have Staff in the same post for a whole career, now in some cases, they come for a few months or years, then move on to pastures new or to better themselves. The Commercial Team are often the best people to deal with a Network, as they are often Local, know their area & how best to deal with making improvements, and have probably held the same position for very many years.

Unfortunately, Arriva seem obsessed with constant changes to their Network or timing tweaks. As the old saying goes, if it aint broken, don't fix it.

I suspect that the reason for the constant Arriva changes are the appointment of the commercial manager there. He has a mentality of been extremely arrogant and insistent on changing things hence so many unnecessary changes during his time at GNE

I didn't wait to see. I was only passing on the bus and it had hazards on whilst driver was walking around the inside of the bus.

(17 Jun 2014, 3:25 pm)AIG20 wrote Hartlepool Pointer Dart 34606 (NK04 NPJ) is now getting sanded down ready for repaint. 22063 (NK54 BFJ) has been moved to the workshop to the right of the chassis wash pit for a new coat of paint.

Furthermore, 22675 (V675 DDC) is the only MAN ALX300 left at the rear of the depot, alongside two gas buses - one of which is 28031.

22190, 22462 & 22494 looking likely candidates for the final three to be transferred to Lincoln?
RE: Stagecoach North East - Latest
(17 Jun 2014, 7:14 pm)AIG20 wrote They are expecting to receive a total of 11 Ex-Aberdeen vehicles, as mentioned in an earlier post. However, are they still expecting a total of 8 vehicles from the NE - 5 of which have already arrived?

Yes, that's what I was referring to... 5 (22174, 22453/63/64/68) + 3 (22190, 22462/94) = 8

If any other gas buses have arrived, they may be hidden from view (in one of the workshops).

Wonder if they are waiting to be taxed?
