RE: Bus Related Outings and Reviews
One could suggest that Arriva should have used lines relating to air conditioning in their marketing for service X21 - 4812 is certainly good for that!
Is Whoosh okay for that or does it need to be called gale-force.

I didn't feel the cold as I was wearing a thick parka and was sat near the back when I rode it.

1238 Dewsbury - Huddersfield Arriva Yorkshire 1811

1555 Leeds White Rose Centre - Leeds Cornmill Interchange First West Yorkshire 36224
1849 Leeds Railway Station - Thornaby TPE 185143

Cost of rail fare: £8.95 (£4.00 to Leeds, £4.95 from) then £7.70 for a West Yorskhire Bus & Train Dayrover (despite not using the train at all - but that was due to having no concrete plan).

And that's it for trips in 2014 for me - nightshifts start in the morning (3am start Undecided , moves to 1am at some stage ) for up to 11 weeks.

Not bad at all fare wise! I'm still overdue a trip to West Yorkshire, but I'm going to have to put it off until next year now.

Benefits of a 16-25 railcard and using the Student area of TransPennine Express' website to save 50% rather than just the third with the railcard. The only downside was leaving it a day to book - I could have got the travel down and back for £8 if I'd booked a day earlier.

My aim thanks to work is to do a few trips away next year - including a few week/weekend trips to get the maximum out of areas (Manchester for example is better done over a few days to get around the most areas).

Whoosh might just cut it if you're sitting at the back.
Hurricane would be more apt for sitting at the front of 4812.

4813 is a little better, though the dash bleeps every 2 minutes on that one.

Oh yes, I'll use my camera instead of my camera! Tongue

If I get off the 21 at Eldon Square, I can walk across to Haymarket and maybe get a few photos of the Sapphires, MAXs & Cobalts in action, then if I walk down to Blackett Street and get a few Stagecoach shots I can have a bit of variety in what I upload. I'll definitely be deleting the ones I took yesterday!

By the way my camera is a Panasonic DMC-TZ55. Any good?

When I've done a few practice shots, the only way I can get a clear enough shot to identify what is in the photo is if it's heavily zoomed in.

Well I used to have the TZ30 and TZ40 and loved them, so if the TZ55 is one of the next models up, it should be better than both of those!

Ah, cheers Dan. I guess I'll just have to get used to it, that's all!

I'm already starting to plan a few days out during the week. I'm in London on Wednesday and Thursday, and we're going go to the London Transport Museum. I believe there is a preserved route like the 15, or something, that uses Routemasters from what I've gathered - so it'll be nice to see those out and about.

Friday I think I might do Durham again and do what Fozz recommends.

Anyway, you'll probably be revising (Wink?) over the holidays, won't you?

Careful with that in itself though. You'll lose stability of your image on the slightest movement. You'd be better off standing somewhere closer to the subject, i.e. edge of the pavement. Plenty of places in Newcastle, Chester, Gateshead, etc, for that.

Paha.. revision!

We don't have any internal exams until January. Far too early to start revision for that!

This is my first holiday since July (was with GNE all of August), so I'm making the most of it...

When I took a few photos at the station yesterday I took a few on my iPod and a few on the TZ55, and the TZ55 had some really good photos of the trains, mind!

We're constantly getting these random tests. In Science on Thursday, I walked in thinking we were mixing Hydrochloric Acid and Sulphur Thiosulphate, but we had a small test on the do's and don't's of risk assessments!

Well, I haven't been on many buses since the summer holidays, so I'd rather start small than big. Smile

If you're getting a day ticket anyway though, you may as well make the most of it! Just have a ride around and see where you end up. Smile

Tomorrow I will be whooshing off to Peterlee to get some photos of the EcoCitys on the new X21. Then I will be heading off to Durham to see Scarlet Bands offerings on the Durham Park and Ride. May have a quick trip to Darlington depends how I'm doing for time and I will finish the afternoon by sampling the Eden's efforts on the new Newton Aycliffe Town Service.

Do the B5's not bore the hell out of you? I couldn't sit on a Angel all of the way from Chester to Gateshead, would much rather get the X21/X25.

Today, I done this:
#17 1138 Rosehill to Wallsend 1148 - ANE 2831
Metro 1150ish Wallsend to Monument 1200ish - East Coast Metrocars
#52 1206 Newcastle to Four Lane Ends 1225ish - ANE 1411

Problem is, X21s are always packed to the point that they're uncomfortable, and X25s can take forever, although I do like to mix it up and get off at Wrekenton then go for a 56 or X1 to Gateshead. I might do that on Saturday or something.

Yeah I always do that - one time I got a 17 to Cramlington, then the X10 to Newcastle, longer to get there, but were more entertaining than sitting on a packed Coaster.

I sat on one from Newcastle to Durham on an evening journey the other week and I went insane. At least we had no Steve and Karen shouting announcements Smile

As ever, will update throughout the day...

0814 #35 - Newcastle Road to Park Lane - GNE 4972
0857 Metro - Park Lane to Haymarket - T&WM 4076
0940 #X20 - Haymarket to North Seaton - ANE 7453

* Had to sack the Morpeth section of my trip due to the fact I was a prat and was standing on the wrong side of the road - meaning that I now do not have time to fit it in...

1104 #X20 - North Seaton to Haymarket - ANE 7453
1145 #10B - Eldon Square to Riverside - GNE 6074
1230 #X66 - Riverside to Gateshead - GNE 5341

1502 #X7 - Peterlee to Sunderland - GNE 5335
1536 #35 - Park Lane to Newcastle Road - GNE 5304

* Went home for a bit at this point to charge my phone, charge myself (with food) and make a start on uploading photos...

1732 #35A - Newcastle Road to Park Lane - GNE 4968
1757 #E2 - Park Lane to Newcastle Road - SNE 22070

Changed my plan slightly, mainly because the weather was looking awful. Didn't manage any good photos either, due to light, however a few of the practice ones I took of the 156s and 142s at the Metrocentre were really good quality! Anyway, I did;

#21 - Chester to Gateshead
GNE 6062 (10:30ish - 11:15ish)
#X66 - Gateshead to Metro
GNE 4923 (11:20ish - 11:30ish)
#X24 - Metro to Chester
ANE 7469 (12:05 - 12:35)

The traffic resulted in the X24 being ten minutes late when I got on and about an extra ten minutes added on to the actual journey.

RE: Bus Related Outings and Reviews
Just booked some train tickets for tomorrow before I go to London on Wednesday, so here is what I'm planning tomorrow...:.

East Coast - Durham to Newcastle
(11:25 - 11:42) (1N08)
East Coast - Newcastle to Durham
(12:25 - 12:43) (1Y32)
#X2 - Durham to Chester
(12:55 - 13:15)

Hopefully, after growing in confidence of snapping trains today I should be able to get a bit of photography in at Newcastle Central, and if I find a gap I'll walk outside of the station and see if there are any buses.

Cutting it fine in Newcastle there aren't you? Smile

Newcastle is good for photography. Plenty of platform room well out of the way, and you never get any hassle from anyone. Only station I've ever had hassle actually is Blackpool North.

I've got all of the times and stuff for which trains will be in the station for when I'm there, so hopefully I'll get a wide variety. Problem is, I'll be doing a lot of walking. There might be a Pacer at Platform 9 at 11:54 and then an East Coast over at Platform 2 at 11:55, so I am cutting it fine in that respect! Smile
