Speaking of the 317...
I was on it yesterday and the current Enviro 300 allocation imo is not suitable. As in length because that route (in Percy Main and Howdon) the streets, parked cars and tight turns ended in quite a few close calls. With cars having to reverse to let the bus past which was blocking the crossroads etc.. The E300 has a lot of overhang at the back and the driver looked nervous and the bus' big 'backend' definitely seemed a challenge even the passengers were commenting.

I have seen how close the bus gets to cars, but i gurss for now, those buses will have to do

Still not really sure why they were selected over the Enviro200s for that route - sure some of them are Euro6 or could be upgraded (which they will need to be anyway if remaining in Newcastle on 32/32A/35 etc)

It's only Euro 5 the 317 like.

The contract was Euro 5, but Stagecoach bid based on providing a Euro 6 bus.
Presumably the shorter Euro 6 E200s are needed for the 32 given the size restrictions on this route, hence resulting in the 317 being allocated these longer E300s.

Went on the 19 and E1 open tops today. You would think the wheatsheaf would smarter them up during the winter. One was just a boring plain white and the coloured one still had north Tyneside landmarks on.
I also noticed a sign for stagecoach Manchester covering the cctv operation on the staircase!!!

They've got about 19 E200s so more than enough to cover 32 & 317. Theoretically allocated to 6 & 7 but E300s often sub on those routes (which won't need Euro 6 so could have anything - with the E300s back on the 10/11/Expresses). There is bound to be some method to the madness though (and hopefully not just a ridiculously over inflated seating requirement on the contract)

They've been in a shocking state internally since they arrived to replace the Olympians on CSS, which were in a far better condition! What were passenger numbers like on the runs you sampled?
15 Apr 2022, 9:35 pm
The 19 was packed full route and the E1 was half full
I still say stagecoach should introduce a south side route
Plus refresh the paintwork

Double Deckers actually cope better because they are shorter in length than a full size single decker but the 317 should really be using midi buses

Go North East managed for years using B10BLEs on the same route.

Anyone know if there’s any plans to repaint any of Stagecoach NE’s Enviro 400MMCs into the Jubilee livery as I’ve seen photos on Flickr of other areas in that livery?

Given the track record for SNE, I ain't holding my breath for a jubilee bus from Stagecoach around here. Heck I'm suprised the seasiders haven't been repainted into standard livery, though I guess with their age they are on borrowed time.

Plenty of time for this to be done as a few other depots elsewhere in the country seem to have them as noted below.
10467 (SN65 OAZ) - Stagecoach Manchester
10626 (SN16 OXH) - Stagecoach Manchester
10699 (SN66 VVK) - Stagecoach South

Even for the golden jubilee, Stagecoach refused to paint a bus into the Stagecoach golden jubilee livery (which is effectively similar to the interconnect livery in Lincolnshire).
And even if there is an special repaint it's only once in a blue moon or for contractual reasons (Quaylink or Teesside Flex comes to mind).
Honestly I bet the management had a fit when they told the Hybrids were coming in a green version of the standard livery, and probably had another and even bigger fit when told their 40 gas buses will be in a completely non-standard special livery promoting that they are ran on gas.
In the North East this is a list of non-standard local service bus liveries (not route branding or adverts) done by Stagecoach since 2003....

Ikea (Contract / Advert) - https://flic.kr/p/jak1mG
White - https://flic.kr/p/2iqtxg5
Mosaic (Livery Launch Vehicle) - https://flic.kr/p/2itfaMJ
To sum it up, I think they would only normally have non-standard liveries (Hybrid, Gas, Mosaic) if they are forced to have them because of Head Office. It just feels to me that they don't really go out of the way to do a non-standard livery.
