Now you mention it, I forgot Wear Buses frequently went to 'OK Travel'.

Honestly, I think that is a great use of the double height display, especially when the wrong branded vehicles are operating on the route!
Now I've got used to seeing the double height displays on the X21 with them using the StreetDecks, every time I see one of the B5s it looks crap, there's so much wasted black space above and below!

I thought GNE were (very slowly) changing all numbers back to the right side.

smaller screens on the mercs are the same size as some rear displays i believe, hence why they're on the left

They can, but would require an additional screen set up in the software. May have decided not worth doing for how many buses have that size of display at the front.
Appears to be a similar story with 6177-6182. Their numbers still on the off-side as same size as the Solo rears
