What are the timetable changes for the 8/8A/60/61/61A/20/20A/65?

Some evening journeys on 20 will run as 20A , 60,61&65 have time changes to help with reliability., not sure yet about 8&8A .

8 introduced full route Sunderland to Stanley evening and Sunday

With 2A running evenings (and Stagecoach 13 running along Tunstall Road) 61A becomes standard 61.

20/20A becomes half hourly Sunderland to Durham until late evening, alternate journeys run as 20 / 20A.
20A introduced on Sunday.

Positive changes those but didn't they try the 8 previously and it didn't work?
Ooo Friend, Bus Friend.

I'm quite surprised that the 60 changes arent an increased frequency, looking at Traveline, theyve still got the 60/65/61/61A/8 as old timetable

It barely had a chance last time, and was hampered by the fact it departed Chester-le-Street, for Washington, a couple of minutes after the 50.

I agree it's a positive change, as is the 2/2A, but hopefully they've done something about that timetable clash this time round.

Hopefully the 2/2A can have a PVR increase and more layover time.
RE: November 2023 changes
Wonder if these are commercial improvements or whether these are BSIP funded improvements. There's been extra buses in Northumberland which would suggest that Co. Durham and Sunderland have a share of this pot aswell to do similar.

They're all coming in at a similar date afterall, similar to the Stagecoach improvements to the West of Newcastle.

Will the 81 no longer extend to sunderland on a sunday then, seems a bit overkill to have it as well.

That would mean some joined up thinking, looking at the bigger picture.
Are they even capable of doing that?

I hope they are.

Wonder if the 81 could be used to link north sunderland to Washington maybe extending it a bit around Sunderland.

Theres no real link to Washington apart from the 56 and that just goes along the main road between SOL and Nissan

Good point and it makes me wonder if the 83 will be scrapped as well. Would make sense to extend the 8 to serve Washington Village and Barmston on an evening to cover the links lost if the 83 was binned.

I'd made similar point, when they originally pulled the commercial services out of Washington Village.

It'd take marginally less time for the 8 to divert off and serve The Avenue, Village Lane and Abbey Road, than it did doing the back and forth down to Brady Square. You'd only be omitting two stops in the process, which are served by the 4.

Barmston Ct is the anomaly. It's incredibly difficult to serve without going back on yourself to do so, unless it acts as a terminus. It's likely that which will keep a secured 82/82A/83 in place.

Personally, I don't understand why the 8 does the express section along the A1231 nowadays, now it travels all the way down to Teal Farm it's just doubling back on it self and gaining nothing in the purpose.

Maybe could have a scope for swapping the 8 and 50 around from Rickleton to Washington Galleries, then having the 8 doing something like - https://www.google.com/maps/place/Barmst...?entry=ttu - it's pretty much just the 81 route on a Sunday anyway.

It's not really adding any extra and there's no real lost links considering the 2A does most the 8 route being swapped at the bottom end of Washington anyway. It would give the 50 a quicker route, or at least feel quicker not going round in circles who will likely have more long distance punters.

Would cover the 81/82/83.

Quick service to/from Waterview Park, and it also serves Peel. I think it'd be a mistake to remove it.

Aye fair on Peel, does anyone actually use it? - open question that I don't use the service tbh - it's a shame it can't actually loop into the retail park, the minute or so it would take rather than making people wait on a horrid bus stop on a slip road.

I wouldn't say the numbers are earthshattering, but it's a regularly used stop, yeah.

It'd actually be safer if it did loop the Retail Park. Those slip road stops aren't the best for waiting and for those crossing.

People walk from Barmston to use it. Also, there's shoppers for Peel itself.

Aye that's fair, reminds me a bit of the Silverlink bus stops on the Coast Road which is pretty grim if you're waiting for a bus Westbound. Luckily not many people seem to use that stop though as it's mostly people heading towards it from the Coast rather than vice versa.

Was thinking about this......but surely the developers of the new builds, NTC, TWAM (Museums for Stephenson Railway) and Nexus missed a trick not putting a link road between Norham Road and TT Trading Estate.

Would mean:
- Silverlink gets a 'proper' service without too much of a de-tour of the 306/308
- New developments get a faster bus service and new links
- More links to TT trading estate

The Stephenson Railway is in the way for that, would've always been a good idea to link into Tesco car park but it's not possible. We used to cut across to Silverlink down there years ago.

I would guess BSIP funded.

The 8 times Chester-le-Street to Stanley fit around the 34, 78 on common sections as best as possible.
The 50 fits with the 5 in South Tyneside and timings are partly set for shift change times at places like Nissan.
So the extended 8 might not be as well spaced as so might hope.

The 81 is a Nexus secured service and Nexus haven't consulted on cutting it so I'm guessing it's not changing, although running it at slightly different times would be good.

I have never understood why there is an 83 in the evening every day but daytime it's either the 82 or 81 in the daytime round Teal Farm, Barmston Court.

It might be 2024 before these changes actually start of course.

Changes are 2 weeks from today.

Presumably any communications are being held pending outcome of the next round of pay talks and whether or not the industrial action planned for 28 October onwards goes ahead.

More changes are due on the 12th November

Few revised routes and timetable but it seems the 83 is being withdrawn

Changes planned for November 5th have been pushed back a week to November 12th.

6, 16, 50, 79, 81, X1, X5/X15, X45 & X62 now have revised timetables from November 12th with the Durham routes and the 79 also showing revised routes, reopening of Durham Bus Station must be due around that date?
