Go North East State Of The Fleet

(26 Feb 2024, 9:05 am)Storx wrote In fairness, not letting passengers on is MUCH WORSE than someone being a little bit uncomfortable. People might be using that bus for work, that's much worse than someone having too little space for 10 minutes especially when it's every 30 minutes.

I can tell you've never been on the Tube at peak hours, now that is uncomfortable.

Not sure I completely agree what if someone has a panic and it causes a medical emergency, yes not nice for anyone then. I don’t live in the area but even I know that solos should never ever be used on the 50.

I get that argument but the counter is, you could leave someone out in the cold who needs to go to a vital hospital appointment etc.

Of course, the Solo's should be no-where near the 50 either mind.

Solos have also been on the 4, 8 & 34 today as well. In what world is this acceptable. Surely washy have enough spares.

Today has been an utter shambles on the angel with numerous breakdowns and huge gaps

I caught a 21 from Chester to town…it took over 1hr 15. We changed drivers at Gateshead and he queried why the bus was so busy or late.

Our driver joked well I’m the only angel shed that hasn’t broken down today

6356-63 have just had there vinyls removed after (2/3 years)
RE: Go North East State Of The Fleet
Forgot to mention that 6356 looked forlorn on Tuesday when I passed it at Dunston.
It's wingmirrors looked intact. So that's a good sign.

Checking bustimes, it hadn't been tracking for a week until Wednesday, so someone worked miracles overnight on Tuesday.
It was back in the depot and a wrecker hadn't long left Riverside so putting 6 and 6 together, I get 12 and a broken down bus.

Just had to get a bus after dropping car off for MOT, first time in 5 years and I have to say 6148 shouldn’t be anywhere near frontline service.

Interior is a disgrace, it was very dirty and the less I say about the smell the better.

Whilst this bus is more than likely being withdrawn in the coming months, it should still be cleaned at least.

You hadn’t been on a bus in 5 years!? I hope this doesn’t come across as rude, but simply out of interest, I’m curious to your presence on a bus forum…

Not rude at all, Always had an interest, spent a lot of time on Stagecoach buses before I moved from NCL to Durham.

I learned to drive in my late 20’s on the basis of how bad the ‘Stanley’ depot changes were at the time. (When they dropped the x30/x31) from Lanchester.

Yeah the Omnidekkas are awful inside - weird damp mixed with engine fuel smell. Excellent for legroom - which is handy as you don't want your knees anywhere near the front of the seat back. Awful image for commuter travel when they whack them on X39.
Wistfully stuck in the 90s

Often wondered if it was an ELC kinda thing.
Didn't ride the Vykings too often to notice, but the Tridents were notoriously foisty.

Vykings were decent, so were the Loynes atleast in my expierence, the Tridents were much better than some of the OmniDekka, i suppose when the buses are at 20 years old its expected i dont think the Tridents lastest even 15 that was when GNE were a decent company

They were just built crap, the Cityzens at Blyth were awful for leaks everywhere and the Mylleniums (think that's how it was spelt) were falling apart.

The DB250's had a nice Voice retarder though mind, just a shame they were ruined by the god damn awful Urban 90 seats.

Some interesting comments to the below post on a Consett Facebook page. Seems people do care about the age of a bus, especially if they're experiencing regular breakdowns!

Probably somebody on this forum who's posted that ? I bet most people don't notice the reg plate unless they're stood next to it at another breakdown.

I believe at least some have been removed, but all appear to retain their green interior lighting (which, if I recall correctly, can be updated to another colour - i.e. red).

Just came back from the Metrocentre and whilst walking across the bridge over the bus station I noticed one of the Red Kite deckers driving round with a missing real panel part (rear nearside bottom corner).
Whilst this doesn't impact on the operation of the vehicle, I wonder what impression this sets to potential passengers.

Not roadworthy surely?

I think its either 6046 or 6048. It's the little corner bumper panel.. it's been like that for approx a month. There's also an ex London B9 at Consett with the offside one missing. Not sure if that's still the case.

After a night at friends, I took the 28 into town from Beamish and had the pleasure of 8326…

I think we genuinely rolled back going up Long Bank, passengers genuinely applauded when we passed Rwvensworth Golf Club
