Because Shields doesn't need them, Sunderland depot, i think have gained school contracts which require deckers, hence the transfer to Sunderland and not Shields.
Ooo Friend, Bus Friend.

one of 27724/5 was on short 40's yesterday (extra city centre trips in West End)

Heard a rumour and it was only a rumour a few days ago that Stagecoach Hartlepool will start doing some school services again in which case bigger buses will be needed as the current fleet of enviros are not big enough so some buses from Stockton or Newcastle might need to be transferred to Hartlepool. Guess we will see in the coming weeks if they is any truth to it.

Sunderland had 19114 & 19179 (Magic livery) arrive from Wigan yesterday to help provide extra school capacity.

Are any more due to arrive, or just these two?

Will the scholars services interwork with normal services or are they standalone, if so will they be replacing any other vehicles?

A third should be due from Manchester. Don't know about any other details, presumably they are Nexus school services and I assume one will do SL06 in Durham too.

Whilst we would all like to see different buses, double deckers are simply not an efficient viable option for most places in the North East in today's climate.

The North East has a modern fleet, all things considered. There is no point sending older buses to depots just to 'mix it up', sure it would be nice to get a double decker every now and then, especially to give passengers breathing space, but you look at the likes of the 58 and the decker on their barely has anyone upstairs.

I don't get what you expect from South Shields, your lucky you've got the network you've got it's a basketcase of a place at the best of times. Bar the E services there's little money in most the routes as they're just short hopper services into South Shields and who particularly wants to go there. GNE have your profitable services 20, 26, 27 and 50 which are long distance and actually go places with the Metro taking the Newcastle passengers.

Be happy with what you've got as other similar sized places such as Washington, parts of Sunderland and Whitley Bay / North Shields would love what you've got instead they've got GCT running the services at nights and Sundays with breadvans and if you go to other places such as Scarborough which is a similar size they have 1 local service after 6pm.

Don't why others are complaining about getting vehicles in from other areas of the Stagecoach Group, these E400's are available for Cascade due to the entry into service of BYD Electric 400's and ADL E400MMC's in Manchester, hope a few more come up as a few services in Sunderland & South Shields could use some to aid social distancing at this moment in time on certain journey's.

I agree with you. Also, it seems that their move is to be used on new school contracts, so Stagecoach won't buy new buses for those. These DDs are a lot more modern than the ex-London buses, such as 52-plate Tridents and Wright bodied B7TLs , that are used on some scholars routes. They maybe used on normal routes as well as scholars, too.
