Out of curiosity, have some of the "and" destinations been removed with the update to Arial route numbers? For example, on the 58 "Newcastle and Heworth" appears to have gone, being replaced by "Heworth via Tyne Met College". As well as this, I haven't saw the "Metrocentre and..." displays on the 'TEN' routes either recently, although not to say they're not still there?

The one for service 58 has been removed (for now) as a lot of drivers are either forgetting to change this destination when they reach Newcastle, or they're not using it at all leaving Hadrian Park. We can look into adding this again should the trial with the Next Stop Announcements changing the destinations by itself mid-route work.

The "Metrocentre and..." display for the "TEN" group of services is still there - it's just very rarely used by drivers. Again, it'll be marvellous if the trial with the Next Stop Announcement works, as we'll be able to look into destinations changing on here too.

Thanks for clearing that up, and I'd certainly agree about the "Newcastle and Heworth" screens being used beyond the City Centre on some occasions. Next stop announcements changing the destinations certainly sounds like a good idea, although I imagine that'll be a lot of hard work to program!

I get a feeling that someone wants to draw bus maps when he grows up. He does a lot of this - compiling the route maps and schematics from all his timetables. He's had dozens of them, spread out on every available surface, this evening.

He has yet to get the hang of the relative positions of places (ie look at a proper map to work out where to put everything so that Middlesbrough doesn't end up north of Stockton and Stanley & Consett slap bang in between CLS and Gateshead!!) :s

I'm more concerned that Felling is making a bid to escape into North Yorkshire. They won't know what's hit them.

Your wee'en should be congratulated on his achievement - however, suggest that he should draw out each route on a separate sheet before joining them up where there are common destinations - then he can condense the result onto one (smaller) sheet.

The individual sheets don't need to be full A4 size (though there is no reason why not - providing you have a large floor area where he can lay them out).

He tends to use the schematics off individual bus timetables - they start off tidy, when there's only a few routes joined together. It's when he adds more outlying routes that things go wrong.

He's always had a thing for drawing maps, charts, plans etc but forward planning is a real weakness. He's rather impulsive and tends to want to jump straight into something without thinking about potential pitfalls before he starts. He also has a big aversion to using a ruler!

Realise that, with his mind (children notice detail that adults miss) he probably thinks (sorry - that should be knows)  that the 'mess' is comprehendable.
He can decipher what you see as scribble.
If he is happy with his maps then why should they be redrawn so that adults can understand them?

As an engineer, the only way that I do drawing is with a ruler!

Yep, he does enjoy creating them. I always take a PIC before he discards his creations as all the pleasure for him is in the creation- though we do have a couple of buses on the fridge at the moment.

When he was making up paper buses, he made up a bus station for them, complete with stand allocations and timetables. That stayed on the fridge until the number of amendments due to clashes became too much.
I do love how that particular aspect of his mind works.
