(13 Dec 2015, 12:19 pm)Michael North Bridge Street - summary of the proposed improvements

The proposals include allowing two-way traffic on North Bridge Street and Dame Dorothy Street as well as some alterations to the Wheatsheaf Junction and streets nearby.
The aim of these changes is to improve traffic flow in the area and onto the Wearmouth Bridge. It is intended to reduce the length of time taken for journeys into and out of Sunderland city centre and encourage economic development.
A detailed analysis of traffic in the area has been carried out to ensure that the proposed changes will have a positive impact.
Subject to consultation, work could begin in 2017 and be completed before the Tall Ships event in 2018. The council has already identified a budget of £4m for the project.

I hope this goes ahead, its about time they changed that road.

It isn't too long since they got rid of the Wheatsheaf roundabout and installed the lights - making improvements to the junction.

Ye, its much better, don't wait to long now which is good as before it was a nightmare going all the way around however i think it could mean the bus lane only lane leading from the Wheatsheaf to the bridge? as it looks like it does on the picture provided.

However the downside is.........

Nightmare traffic - even worse on match days.
Diversions.

Edit:

Also i think because its Sunderland council they've forgot to re-word this statement:

That barrier perpendicular to the seat is fairly new, as well. Its installation has done wonders for the floor tiles. But the chipped red paint, plus chipped black paint, in total contrast to the neat, tidy, plain metal railings around the coast and country stand do nothing to improve what must be the draughtiest bus station in the region.

Smoother traffic flow for Christmas on Wearside
There's early festive cheer for Sunderland drivers!
Roadworks for our city's next bridge are being removed for the holidays.
Lane closures and temporary works along Wessington Way are stopping for the rest of the year, but commuters are being warned work is stepping up in 2016.

This time its a different company, working with a couple more and they seem quite good for what they want to do.

I complained about the toilets ages ago and they blamed Sunderland council, as they are contracted to clean them, no doubt they'll blame the council for the railings to.

NEXUS should be getting on to the council about the state of the bus station, as they run it!

I haven't used the bus station in a while so haven't seen the state of it in a while.
