Go North East: Latest News & Discussion - February 2016

Washington depot is getting the 50's & 5's as from 10th April 2016!
88's going to the Riverside!
changes happening to the 82's aswell.

Take this with a pinch of salt,  wouldn't bother me, might have 563.

EDIT: From Steve Morrell. Seems legit.

Further to this the rest of 8/78 will go to Chester-le-Street.

If the 50 is going to Washington, I wonder if we'll see a timetable change for it soon? There are a number of short starts in each direction on a morning, and the last 3x 50s of the day terminate in Chester. I can't see that much light running lasting long.

Makes sense for that to happen but it also means that Stanley will lose some buses without gaining anything... i would imagine that some drivers would move to Chester from Stanley if that happens.

They'd just shuttle to Washington maybe. The 47 seems to be going to Stanley.

Forgot about the 47, ye seems a good idea.

Looks like GNE are having a depot shuffle, wonder if Deptford will gain or loose anything...

I heard just before Christmas that the 36 was moving to Chester in January... that move seems to of been stopped... hence why i didn't mention it before.

Not sure if the 36 should move to Chester because of mileage etc, if the proposed move ever comes back up...

Starting to wonder if space needs to be made at Washington to accomodate the Omni's, that won't be sorted by shifting the 88's to Riverside.
Will this coincide with the changes to the 82 perhaps?

When has space ever bothered Washington? Buses are left parked on the main road overnight. Big Grin

There are 8 Versas for the 88/88A. The 50 has 6 Omnis at Chester, and the 5 requires 4 vehicles. So at a simplistic view, it's only a maximum increase of 2 vehicles.

The 82/82A has been FUBAR anyway. The changes every 6 month or so have seen to that. The only section that seems to do anything in my opinion, is the Galleries-Barmston part. They could do with doing what they originally done with the M2/M3, and redesign the Washington locals from scratch.

Davie's just told me he heard half of the 56 is going to Washington. Riverside aren't gaining/losing any,

Can we ensure that we clearly mark speculation as just that? Some drivers will say anything to enthusiasts, because they know they'll come on the Internet and spout it out, and make them look stupid in the process.

Particularly the Birtley section.
Granted councillors have had their fingers in the pie, but the Harras Bank farce and the extension from Birtley up to Northside (so passengers can get from the shops but not to them) hasn't helped.

The last few runs are Chester - Houghton with light runs to Deptford from Chester.
If Chester were going to get anything, those runs would make sense.

I don't think Morrisons have helped either. Why go all the way to Washington for a supermarket, when there's a cracking one now opened at Birtley.

Morrisons isn't performing well. People still seem to prefer Asda and Sainsburys.

I'd say the 82 Is vital for the elderly around Barley Mow and Portmeads, however Concord to Birtley in 45 minutes is obscene! Arguably a taxi bus or a reworked 23 could pick up that slack.

Completely agree! The Northside section is a p*ss take.

Really?

I live in Barley Mow and get the 82A to Birtley most days, and it is generally well used.... Just doesn't warrant Deckers!
RE: Go North East: Latest News & Discussion - February 2016
I have done a list of the rumoured depot changes, as info is scattered across a couple of pages: (NONE Confirmed) - movements rumoured to be taking place on the 10th April.

Movements around depots:

5 from Riverside to Washington
50/50A from Chester to Washington
88/88A from Washington to Riverside
47 from Riverside to Stanley
Stanley's 8/78's moving to Chester

Also rumoured changes to the 82's aswell.

I hope Dan doesn't mind that I've made his info in to a list?

In what way is it not performing well? I didn't think they'd release footfall or financial stats for individual stores?

I've only been in a handful of times, and found it to be quite busy.

I've never used the 82/82A on that section during the day. I've used it early morning and GNE evening runs, and it's not uncommon for me to be the only person sat on it between Birtley and Rickleton.

If it's generally well used during the day, it surprises me that Arriva haven't capitalised on the evening runs they already have secured? It'd provide a nice little local link to their X12, and also allow them to offer some form of day ticket. They've had a good 4 year or so to do it, and still nothing though.
