Evening loop cutting works at Sunderland Wearmouth Bridgehead, affecting all services - 15 Feb 2016
From Monday 22 February 2016, Sunderland City Council will need to instigate some temporary lane closures and diversions.
These temporary arrangements are necessary to facilitate “loop cutting” works associated with the traffic signals.
The works will be carried out over a number of phases, during which access to the roundabout will be reduced to a single lane, and at times, traffic will be diverted around the surrounding area.
The times of any works will be limited to between 1900 and 0530, and are likely to take around four nights in total.
Phase 1 of the works will provisionally take place during Monday 22 and Tuesday 23 February 2016. During this phase of the works, southbound buses from Wearmouth Bridge will be required to operate via West Wear Street and High Street West in order to access John Street. Northbound buses will be able to continue operating along Bedford Street (although they may need to be switched to the opposite carriageway), but will then be diverted from the southern bridgehead roundabout via St.Mary’s Way to St.Michael’s Way roundabout, before then returning via St.Mary’s Way to Wearmouth Bridge, at which point normal routes can be resumed. Buses will undertake these diversions on a non-stop basis.
Phases 2 and 3 will be in place the remainder of the week, but should have no impact to the route of Stagecoach bus services. However, as there’ll be some lane restrictions and dispersal of traffic, all buses may be subject to some localised delays.
Whilst we will endeavour to minimise any disruption, Stagecoach would like to apologise for any inconvenience or delays that these temporary road restrictions may cause, which are due to circumstances beyond our control.
