GNE have won a few new routes, glad to see them running the 19, 7 days a week.

Wonder if the 168 could be merged with another route if GNE ever picked it up as a commercial route....

Let's walk before we can run! Wink

I'd imagine it would only ever be commercially operated if there was a risk that the contract would be lost to a competitor, and the service proves to be sustainable for the duration of the contract.

Most journeys on service 29 in Gateshead will be commercially operated from the same date as above - willing to bet Gateshead Central Taxis had an attractive bid in for that service! That's your cue, Andreos!

Might be able to provide more info when I manage to get into my NEB emails! That's where I get all my tender info sent to!

Yes - I think Pheonix have been awarded with it again.

Go North East has lost the Sunday 32/A services and I think Phoenix may have picked these up too. Arriva has also lost the 554 to Go North East.

The long 38 (in theory), would have worked well with the 168. Both terminate about a mile from each other the way the roads work (basically opposite sides of the dual carriageway as the crow flies).

Was the 33/33A up for tender separately last time? Continually surprised this is renewed , it carries thin air 99% of the time.

Guessing it's politics of the well heeled variety keeping this one going

Gerra way man, they have been a roaring success story.

Look at how many of the services which were supported by Nexus, that are now commercially viable services.

The list just keeps on growing Wink

Very, very good, the 13 is certainly a challenging route due to the tiny roads it goes down, I assume the three buses freed up by the loss of Whitley Bay will go for the 13 and 168, while two Versa size buses will be needed for the 33

The contract for the Sunderland Connect 700/701 services is up for renewal this year.

Sunderland City Council will provide 3 low-carbon hybrid vehicles in a dedicated livery to operate this contract. The use of these vehicles will be subject to a separate agreement between the successful contractor and Sunderland City Council.

The details of vehicles to be provided are as follows:-
  • Optare Solo SR Hybrid – NK61 EFY (Capacity 49)
  • Optare Solo SR Hybrid – NK61 EGY (Capacity 49)
  • Optare Solo SR Hybrid – NK62 DWY (Capacity 48)

It should be noted that it is extremely likely that these vehicles will need to be re-painted during the term of this contract.

The contract will require the successful bidder to operate a term-time timetable (17th September 2016 until 7th July 2017) and a separate summer timetable (8th July 2017 to 2nd September 2017).

GNE got it from the 4th September 2016 according to VOSA.....so it looks like it will last for 13 days before a new operator takes over, if GNE don't get it.
