GNE have a good working relationship with Beamish, so cannot see the issue with them branding a bus up to advertise the museum.

Just received this email re- simplified fares for young people in full time education.

Simplified Fares for Young People, Students & Apprentices - from 24th August 2016
I am writing to advise you of improvements we’re making to fares for young people and students that will apply across the North East Combined Authority (NECA) area on Go North East services.
From 24th August we are offering the following to young people and those in full time education of any age, including those on recognised apprentice schemes:
• A simple £1 single fare for all aged 18 & under across the NECA area, whatever the place, time or day of travel. A small number of exceptions do apply.
• The ability for parents to purchase tickets on their mobile and gift it to their child’s mobile instantly or in advance.
• Our day ticket price, which covers the entire NECA area, is frozen at £3.75 and our weekly and monthly ticket prices are simplified.
• Everyone in full time education regardless of age is eligible for our day, week and monthly student tickets, so if you’re still learning you’re still saving.
• Student tickets available to those on apprenticeships in response to the growing numbers of people on these government supported schemes.
After five years of having the key smartcard for young people, our research and experience is showing that young people in particular do not want to carry around additional cards. Therefore we are giving people the option of purchasing tickets via our mobile phone app, in addition to online and on the bus.
There will be instances where it is necessary for someone to prove their entitlement to these discounts. In this circumstance, we will simply ask for any form of age or student identification issued by recognised third parties such as universities and student unions. We are taking a more consumer and retail approach to such matters as part of these changes.
There are also a small number of exceptions to our £1 any journey anytime ticket on some bespoke services where the cost of operation is higher such as night buses, special event services and a small number of dedicated school bus services.
Full details of our prices are shown below. A communication and advertising campaign is planned to support these changes and the benefits and simplicity they offer.
We believe that we have one of the simplest and most value for money ticketing schemes of any bus company in the UK with this scheme.
Yours sincerely
Kevin Carr

Looks like Get Around weekly and monthly tickets are decreased, 90p fares now £1 but peak scrapped, and day tickets frozen.

(04 Aug 2016, 8:04 am)S813 FVK wrote I wonder if it has anything to do with them being commercial operations? Thats all i can think of.
(04 Aug 2016, 8:18 am)Andreos1 wrote The ironic thing is, that commercially it could backfire - quite a number of those schools have GNE services operating in the vicinity who will be essentially undercutting the scholars service.
(04 Aug 2016, 8:25 am)S813 FVK wrote Yep. We have the 15 to Durham/Consett which both come not long after the school buses have left and the 30 to Stanley (the 15:40 journey from Lanchester calls into the school anyway)
(04 Aug 2016, 8:30 am)Andreos1 wrote Assuming there is a direct bus between home and school, the savings will be quite a bit over the course of a school year. £2 a day versus £2 singles.
My mother complained when it went to 40p a day and thought I was scamming her 10p! She would be having kittens if I was still at school! Bring back 5p singles!

How does this work with network one passes et cetera?

(04 Aug 2016, 10:09 am)Andreos1 wrote The 4 does too. Goes in to Co Durham, but starts/terminates in T&W. Network One passes are valid if boarding and alighting within the T&W sections.

Think I heard that said before but not 100% on that. Think the Vykings can stay at Deptford as I think they mainly only do short 9's and peak time 265's, also Chester-le-Street have Lolyne's that need replacing.
