Arriva North East: Latest News & Discussion - August 2017

RE: Arriva North East: Latest News & Discussion - August 2017
I sampled the StreetDeck demo today, a few things to note:
1. The Destination screens now work with white coulor in the blind
2. There spelling of Scarborough is Scaborough
I hope Arriva do try and spell destinations correct as it is strange how they spelt Middlesbrough and Scarborough wrong.
Apart from that its a good bus, although is not really suited on the X93.

I caught it on the 09:50 X93 from Middlesbrough this morning and rode it to Burniston, my thoughts are it was not ideal on this route, 48mph maximum speed on a duel carriageway is pretty poor IMO, it handled Ormesby Bank and Birk Brow not too bad but it really didn't like the hills round Robin Hood's Bay and Fylingthorpe, didn't seem too bad on other parts of the route though.

I've uploaded a video of SK17HHC which was recorded between Fylingthorpe and just outside Cloughton: https://youtu.be/NbQjxTNeP3w

BTW - despite looking a few times, I didn't notice that Scarborough was spelt incorrectly, at least the paper display which said 'Middlisbrough' above the screen has disappeared.

BIB: Given this has Mobitec Destination Screens (not the Arriva-standard Hanover), it won't have been Arriva who programmed the destination.

Do they not even have the chance to look at them before they are programmed to check for things like spelling etc?

It said Middlesbrough but the sheet of paper was stuck on top of the E in error.

Mobitec only programme whatever they have been told to. It's not as easy as pointing the finger at Mobitec, I'm afraid, Kuyoyo.

From experience, they're a cracking set of lads, and really helpful. My contact at McKenna Brothers has never mis-spelt something yet (and why would he, if it's a simple copy and paste from an e-mail job?)

Operators don't get the opportunity to look at them first - the first time would be on the bus itself. But whoever has uploaded it really ought to have gone through every display just to be on the safe side (I know I do!) and if there were any mistakes, McKenna Brothers would have amended it and sent a revised file back, probably within the hour.

Seems to have been quite a rushed job to get this StreetDeck on the road, probably because it spent its first few days of the loan period doing nothing at Ashington. Hopefully they obtain some useful data from it - I'm sure Wrightbus will be keen on securing more orders in the North East.

Mobitec data was kindly done very last minute the night before (almost early morning..) by Stagecarriage - which is why the paper destination was ready to go. I'm sure they'll be an opportunity for John to amend it if they asked. It isn't too noticeable so does the job...

Which board of the X93 has the StreetDeck been allocated too over the past week, thinking about going down Scarborough tomorrow

On Saturday it was the 08:50 of Middlesbrough and Yesterday departed on the 09:50 departure. I think Redcar have it on those 2 boards.

Thanks, will find out when I get to Middlesbrough.

How did the Streetdeck end up going to Ashington first? Did they intend to sample the bus but later deeming it a bad idea or was it fir engineering evaluations?
