Go North East: Latest News & Discussion - March 2019

I think Go North East spend more money changing their branding than Arriva spend on their whole fleet!
I must admit, I do quite like the current corporate livery, but if they're going to be keeping it largely the same, just changing it to be a bit more angular rather than I think it'll look quite nice.

(12 Mar 2019, 8:29 am)JP6004 wrote I think new livery looks fab and really eye catching......I can understand how the new livery works on cobalt - blue and silver and how it would work on crusader red and silver but can't grasp how this would be applied to a brand with only one signature colour; red arrows or the 10 for example. Will they be still one colour but with the stripe or have the fleet livery blue at the rear with the brand colour at the front?

Same with the Angel and Castles Express
I like the fully branded buses as that's what I like about GNE, their buses stand out, unlike the Arriva ones which all look identical

No more repaints into the current fleet livery will be fitted with the taglines.

As already noted above; the corporate livery will be changing too, with all route brands being based off the new fleet livery which uses stripes instead of a swoosh. The new Cobalt gives a good view of how the fleet livery will look.

Will this result in all recent vehicles to receive the current corporate livery going back to Saltmeadows for a partial repaint like they did back in 2016 when the corporate livery changed?

I assume one of Washington's remaining WheyAye50 Branded Omnicities will be the first to receive the new corporate livery or one of the Ex EYMS Presidents if they are all to be repainted.

Yeah I was wondering if the lower deck black window surrounds was unique to the cobalt clipper or not. Just the diagonal effect on the stairwell area might have to go the opposite way on the streetdecks with glass staircases. We'll just have to wait and see.
I always wished the contactless liveried spare streetdeck was put into corporate livery to see what it looks like on that particular model. The new corporate livery will suit it even better what with its angular styling.

That actually looks very nice, very modern compared to the current corporate livery.

I actually like the contactless Streetdeck, that shade of blue look really nice on it, but I agree with the new corporate livery looking nice on it, especially with the styling of the front end

Wonder if the Scania Omnicities currently allocated to Stanley (toonlink) will be repainted and the brand only seeing use on X70/X71. My calculations are only 4 omnicities needed at Consett, 3x X30 and 1 for am 16 dupe / 836 & X30pm.

Everybody on our end still believes the X30 + X32 is coming down.

Some X30s whilst Consett does the X31s. As it is now with the routes inter working and light running buses from Stanley. The last X30 will run off an X31 19:00 from Newcastle, itself running off a 46 operated by a DD streetlite. All daytime X30s are planned to be run by Consett according to our Duties.

6103 worked the 14:34 310 New to N. Shields and back then onto a 309.

Saw 2 of them but didn't get a pic.

Do you think they haven't had their Cobalt Clipper branding applied as GNE will wait until the majority are refurbished ready for a service relaunch?

That is exactly what is happening, when enough are ready they will hold a re-launch event.............

Also noticed while sitting upstairs on 6101 their has been vents installed right at the back below the rear seats which were making a right racket and that it was quite sluggish, then I noticed when on 6103 sitting downstairs it sounded a bit different, sounded like the system the micro-hybrid streetlites use where it recovers energy lost from braking to power the vehicle electrics and compressed air systems.

Have the Cobalt B9's been fitted with anything while they've been away making them more fuel efficient etc, was racking my brains earlier as I can remember their was some funding grant to reduce emissions before the new year which meant a certain amount vehicles which went through Newcastle City Centre would be fitted whatever system the operator had chosen to be fitted.

For the Radio 1 big weekend on the 25th / 26th May, will GNE be adding extra buses on the X9/X10?

The ticketting of Radio 1's Big Weekend is done by postcode and checking how this year's will work, 50% of the tickets are reserved for those living in the Middlesbrough area, 35% for Darlington, Hartlepool, Redcar and Cleveland and Stockton councils, 15% is the rest of the UK. I can't see there being a huge need for Go North East to on the basis of that, Arriva on the other hand...
