(23 Apr 2019, 2:12 pm)Ianthegoon wrote What's the logic behind the X6 and X7 not picking up in Sunderland centre other than at Park Lane?  In the past, I've found it more convenient to hop on these services at Winter Gardens rather than having to make my way across to Park Lane .....
Because the services are now interworking with the new daytime X20 service - this gives passengers from Holmeside an express option to Durham.

Are GNE persisting with the 'Wear Xpress' brand for the 55? Despite it not being a practical way to Wearside from Hartlepool and not the express route from either Peterlee (X6/7 faster) or Houghton (X20 faster)?

Also there's currently a new timetable for the 55/A/X (via Silksworth) and X5 (not via Silksworth) online. Presumably the X5 one shouldn't be up there?

X5 maybe staying

Looking closer at the 28a and 28b they have butchered to service for customers in kibblesworth on an evening.... not even hourly.... a gap of 80 minutes on an evening.

Oh, glad to see Angel 21 will no longer set down on Blackett Street, but will additionally stop on St Mary's Place.
This should make it easy for it to access Eldon Square Bus Station as currently its often difficult for it to turn right from Percy St in the mornings. Regularly you can sit there and miss several green light cycles.
It also takes the route around Newcastle's planned bus loop and off Blackett St which is hoped to eventually be closed to all traffic, including buses.

Also interesting that Fab56 will terminate at Market St West, rather than New Bridge West as there often seems to be bus congestion there & limited kerb space.
RE: Go North East: Upcoming Service Changes v2
So after the Forum where will the 11 turn round, will it do what the 40 does before turning into the 41,or will it go to Walkerville roundabout and turn round there
Kind Regards

Tried to work out the new PVR's...

1/1A - 16 PVR - Wonder what will be added to the Coaster PVR?
11 – 5 PVR - Omnicities
20 – 16 PVR - Streetlites
X6/X7/X20 – 6 PVR - Solo
X21 – 8 PVR - Wonder where the extra decker will come from, 1 of the spare streetdecks?
71 – 2 PVR - Versa
38/238 – 3 PVR - Scania/Solo - or fully Solo?

Spare streetlites from Prince Bishops to 33/33A

I think it's only 4 for the 11 but 17 for the 20, if my calculations are correct!

I'd imagine the 4 Omnicities from the 11 will go on the 19 maybe?

Also, someone mentioned the red arrow getting new buses and the B9s from there being moved onto the 1/1a, but maybe Omnicities from the 11 will be put on temporarily.
RE: Go North East: Upcoming Service Changes v2
Residents at a Sunderland retirement housing development are urging transport chiefs to think again after plans were unveiled to axe a lifeline bus service.

Go North East is cutting the 36 service from Heworth to Chester-le-Street.

https://www.sunderlandecho.com/news/peop...-1-9723041

36 doesn't go to Heworth though
Doreen says residents would be happy with a less frequent service, if it was a matter of cutting costs.

“It is every 20 minutes at the moment - even once an hour would be better than nothing,” she said.

Its not even every 20 minutes either

Maybe we need to see a return of the FPF!

* 71 missing out a big chunk of Fencehouses.
* Losing the direct link to Shields.
* Reduced frequency to Sunderland and Durham dropping from the current 5 ph to 4. Potentially zero! (it's hard to tell if the 35 and X20 are operating via Dairy Lane/Chilton Moor from the timetables).

Wonder if Green Arrow Scanias will be replaced by Blue Arrow Omnicities, Percy Main losing all Omnicities to Riverside, with Riverside Scanias as short term allocation to 11.

There seems to be no mention of it on the X21 timetable any more.

Then again, I rarely ever saw another person on it!

No, X46 is continuing although times seem to have changed for some journeys going off Traveline.

Thats good. Now if only GNE could have a service between Bishop and Crook and I wouldn't have to choose between going via Durham or paying for an Arriva single ticket! (I'd rather go via Durham if it's not obvious)

The combined X6/7/20 PVR looks about the same as the current X5 PVR - and the brand is more fitting to this cluster of routes. Citaros potentially shifting over? Would solve the issue of needing a full size bus for the X20.

That whole side of the station is already ridiculously busy as it is, even with the 20s moving up to stand A, I just don't think there's enough room down there. It seems they're just moving all the busiest services down to that end because it's nearer the entrance so the queues don't block everything, but that end is already pretty busy with just the Arriva services, the queues for the 6 and 7 are usually bigger than the 21 and X21, and they're both going to be right next to each other, it just doesn't seem like it'll work to me but I could be wrong

I hope the 40 moves to stand B with the 20 as it will clash with the 21/50/X21 otherwise, Traveline suggests no.

Thing I find ridiculous is 21/50/X21 will be leaving from one end of the bus station whilst the X12 & X22 will still be leaving from the opposite end of the bus station on stand A.

Can see it being chaotic as the Arriva services at that end of the bus station are terrible for timekeeping and if the 40 doesn't move it will be a right battle to get on ANY stand down that end, some of these Washington drivers are murder for pulling onto the stand in Durham too early especially on the 18:11 50A, one last night pulled onto stand A about 15 minutes before the departure time (Arriva can be bad with it as well).

(OK, so perhaps I'd far rather be on my way to Durham than to Peterlee!!)

I think talking about "giving passengers ... express option to Durham" is really just smoke and mirrors on a forum such as this, where, from the first half of your answer, it's clear that that's just how it drops out operationally from the new interworking, and that there'll be winners and losers on the passenger front. Not at all!

The service could have operated direct into Park Lane with no need to serve Burdon Road and Holmeside at all, like the X7 used to do.

It is clear that there is a benefit of serving Holmeside and that's why the services have been routed like this. The existing Prince Bishops 20/20A pick up far more passengers at Holmeside than the Wear Xpress X6/X7 do.

So will the x21 be following the route of the 18 (via Harrison Crescent) to get to Tindale or will it be following the 6?
I'd imagine it'd be the 6 as there's quite a few sharp corners that a Streetdeck struggles to get round, plus very few people actually get on/off round that way

This is actually the best change ever for me as it means I can finally ditch Arriva for most of my journeys. Now if only they didn't stop running after 5pm!

Particularly as passengers on a chunk of the route are seeing their frequency drop and direct routes lost.

As long as they have 'an express option to Durham', then everything is ok?
