New service X11
(01 May 2021, 10:57 pm)streetdeckfan wrote So really nowt's changed? All they've done is put the coach in front of the StreetDeck and called it an upgrade.

Good thing it's continuing to be busy though!

God, such cynicism. I thought we’d got over that in this thread.

Yes, something has changed. The coach is now the preferred output meaning that most passengers now benefit from a toilet on-board and better comfort: yes this comes at the detriment of the X9/X10 but 7156 has now entered service and Riverside still retain two Levantes as spares, so a coach should still be allocated, just of a slightly lesser specification (no next stop AV).

Beyond this weekend, it’s unlikely that a duplicate will be required in my opinion. There’s been an initial burst of people wishing to use the service, including a small number of enthusiasts, and now the novelty is beginning to wear off, I think we’ll now settle down into more normal passenger number levels, which is effectively a full (in social distancing terms) coach.

Tbf the coach is an upgrade as it has the extra capacity, nicer seats and a toilet and not to mention luggage space so people can bring more with them.

Me, cynical, I've never heard such nonsense!

I'm honestly surprised passenger numbers are still high enough to warrant a duplicate, I thought the novelty would have already worn off.

Now, the big question is at what point do passenger numbers stabilise.
If they were to stabilise at what is now considered a 'full' coach, would that be enough to call it a success in 'normal' times?

Plus, realistically this summer is going to be unique given that foreign travel is going to be fairly minimal, so even assuming things are basically back to normal next year, there's no guarantee that people will want to sit three hours on a coach to get to a mediocre beach (in my opinion) when they can spend the same amount of time on a plane (and probably money if they go Ryanair!) and be in Spain!

Tbh using one of the X Lines X9 coach's is better. Reason being it is more comfortable, has charging ports and WiFi
RE: New service X11
A elite I would be better used than 7157 as 7157 has less seats than an elite I as B9Rs are normally 48 or 49 seater so that will be 7157s capacity which is substantially less than an interdeck.

Tbf, that may just about just about suffice on the X11 now the rules on social distancing on buses has been eased.

Bad enough the Elite's being missing from the X9/X10 on a Saturday but is this likely to still be the case come the end of the month when X11 becomes daily?

7128 would possibly be another suitable option for the X11?

But 7157 isn't PSVAR complaint is it? So therefore couldn't be used on any of GNE's services anyway?

Don't forget 7108/10/30/32/35-37 will also be freed up at the end of the school year depending on what's needed on NX contracts when they resume next month. Also what will be required back on the NX contracts when they return next month?

Could easily be done I'm sure, would make a good spare for the X9/X10 alongside 7128/11 so the X9/10 can be fully coach no matter what.

Are those vehicles wheelchair accessible?

7111/28 are accessible and are already the dedicated spares for the X9/X10.
RE: New service X11
X11 goes daily from this week, as it enters the summer season.

Only 12 seats left according to bustimes.org, and its only at Heworth with 7156 allocated... dupe needed soon?

Edit:

Service X11️ We are aware that service X11 has left passengers at Washington Galleries, don't worry, there is an extra bus on its way to pick you up which should arrive in approximately 20 minutes.
Ooo Friend, Bus Friend.

Yea another X9/X10 coach picked them up. 7154 has 34 seats available after leaving Washington. Jesus this is the fullest (if that's even a word) I've seen them both

Absolutely, but good to see there's a plan in place if the one bus a day is full. I don't know many operators that would send out a second coach, and do it so quickly at that.

Just a question about bustimes.org. How do they obtain the live information on the tracking page which shows how many seats are available on a bus at a particular time?

It's part of the Open Bus API, only some bus companies show it and it's fed from the ticket machines.

There's all sorts of data you can publish with vehicle activity, but sadly most operators don't at the minute

Plenty of information here: https://www.gov.uk/government/publicatio...ce-siri-vm

Data including driver duty numbers, for example, which popped up for a number of operators on Bustimes a couple of weeks ago. All for improving data to the public, but there needs to be better control on what gets let out.
RE: New service X11
What's strange. It wasn't an X Lines coach as well.

Also did it even pick/drop anyone off in Whitby or Scarborough as bus org shows it not serving Whitby Coach stand or Scarborough rail station

Possible just stopped tracking or something else

They could have just swapped the machine over into one of EY's coaches as presumably EY won't have the route or tickets programmed
