(31 Jan 2023, 6:52 pm)Storx https://bustimes.org/vehicles/scne-28031...2023-01-30 - Just quickly worked it out believe it's about 15 mile end to end and that board there does 16 runs which is roughly 240 mile. Believe their range is 200 mile or so, so couldn't do it unless there's form of charging on route.

For the last 2 runs they could use one of the spare electric buses out of the depot, they could work around it like that although, it'll be annoying for the engineers so its unlikely.

(31 Jan 2023, 2:04 pm)Rob44 Ah right. that's fare enough then, although when they go onto the 21 they are just going to make a already profitable route more profitable for  no extra outlay?  Although electric might be as expensive as diesel by the time they arrive

In an ideal world that extra profit would then be used to subsidise another route that's less profitable... lol

Seems like it would be a lot of effort, be interesting to see if it goes back up or they could go on something like the 16 instead which does Chester Road which arguably is the sort of place they'd be good for.

Guessing no doubt the E's got chosen is so everyone get's a bit of the pie so South Tyneside can't moan they got nothing since everywhere is covered.

43/44/45/47 - Northumberland (scraping the barrel admitably), North Tyneside and Newcastle
E1/E2/E6 - South Tyneside / Sunderland
21 - Newcastle / Gateshead / Durham

Oh aye no doubt - it looks like the E's will stay half hourly (10 mins combined), leaves 11 buses left unallocated.

I was hoping for the my local route, the 23 (6 PVR) to be allocated some, as the 16 already uses newer buses (well I say newer, half of them sound horrendous and sound like they're about 30 years old), keeping most of the gas buses on their current routes.

The 16 has a 7 PVR

I take it, it'll be the E300's which will leave Sunderland.

E1/2/6 - 9 PVR
20 - 5 PVR
23 - 6 PVR

That leaves no spares

Hopefully they go for the same features as GNE - however they still have the WIFI turned off on the gas buses..........

Edit:

I know its just been announced, but does anyone know when the new buses will start to arrive?
Wonder if orders have already gone in.

It already costs more to run an electric bus than a diesel bus.

So, even with funding, the operator will have to pay more for a vehicle (compared to Euro 6 diesel), and then they will have to pay a premium to run an electric bus instead of running diesel.

Its a shame its 21 getting then. However hopefully the StreetDecks can be put on routes to replace older G2's.

But GNE need a huge order, something tells me ordering like 150/160 buses between 2011-2013 would be a bad idea in the long run.

(31 Jan 2023, 10:52 am)Storx Also good to see the 'levelling up' fund is going to level up all the poverty in Gosforth especially when the Q3 already runs along there.

Great North Road / Gosforth High Street suffers from congestion & air pollution, hence the Gosforth Air Quality Management Area.

Seems sensible to switch more bus routes on this busy corridor to EVs.

Why does GNE need a big vehicle order?

They have been introducing (admittedly reasonably old) pre-owned buses from Go-Ahead London, which has contributed to reducing the average fleet age.

The average fleet age is currently 8yrs, though by the time all the buses from London arrive, it is likely to be around 7yrs. This, especially given the vast number of scholars services GNE operates, is probably around the industry average.

(31 Jan 2023, 8:57 pm)Unber43 It’s a shame its 21 getting then.

Why?
21 is a high profile/flagship busy stopping service serving Central Newcastle, Central Gateshead, the also congested Durham Road corridor, plus Chester-le-St & Durham City Centre.
Again, seems sensible, no?

I think it does seem sensible and I get why.

Its just a shame that its always Newcastle/Consett areas getting investment.

Really a lot of the services which use 11/12/62/63 plate buses are quite busy services and should have gotten new buses with 15/16 plate ones soon after

like the X21/10/56/4/2/60, and then possibly 20/78/8 later.

I hope GNE will place a quite large order maybe 2024 so the Angel StreetDecks can displace the Hybrids for the 16/16A/X5/47 and possibly the 27.

It was more a dig at the government about levelling up than the buses tbh. I know loads of bids which were to improve town centres including Ashington and Bishop Auckland got rejecting. It's a bit of a farce.

Mind that said, I'm surprised routes like 6 never get a look at. The South West of Co. Durham is almost forgotten about when it comes to government funding similar to East Durham arguably the two most deprived areas aswell and would benefit the New Elvet Bridge area which I know is a problem aswell.

I'd assume the spare electrics not allocated to the Economics may well oust the last of the 3900s (of which there are 8 at Sunderland).

There was a brochure a few weeks ago showing the buses we're meant to be getting. I'll err on the side of caution regarding it for now in case I reveal something I'm not meant to - but what I will say is there wasn't an ADL logo on or in or anywhere near it.

Just thought it could also be that they plan on changing the buses midway through the day, since the ecos have a pvr 10 and we're getting 20 buses. Would make sense given the range BEV buses tend to have.
