Bringing back the original 90s Go Livery is absolutely the answer to all of the current problem

I want that livery to come back, I remember it as a kid, would be good to see an eco friendly variant for electric buses.

Why start on this vehicle and not the ones that have already been painted in the roadstripe scheme.

I did enjoy it on the Metrobuses but that’s 30 years ago.

Another livery at this point (if that’s what this is) suggest Martijn wasn’t the problem, he just encouraged it

Wistfully stuck in the 90s

Talking about liveries what exactly is this now, Arriva and Stagecoach are both on their 3rd but for GNE I can think of:

1990's Shaver Blade - https://images.app.goo.gl/BphqW6SUxutQmyus5
1990's Straight Line - https://images.app.goo.gl/yFrLujFeDtUdqBZt8

2010's Blue Curve - https://images.app.goo.gl/6h8hrvfGkn6fypeX6
2010's Current Livery

No doubt missed one, shocking number of liveries over 20 years, ironic the current one is one of the longer serving ones, believe it or not.

Thats not including the various route branding that has taken place over the years

But for me the simplest livery with route branding was the "simply turn up and go"

Nice and simple mostly still in the company brand so it didn't look out of place if allocated to wrong route.

Jesus that’s astounding considering that original design way back when was….fine. The amount that’s been lost on in house or external marketing could probably have funded a secured service  or an under performing route for at least two year

You forgot the time they ran out of coloured paint and the MD made them paint a load of buses in what we now call spare white

Yeah I responded to that post on the previous page.
It reminded me of the old X66 Optare Delta SuperShuttle livery: https://flic.kr/p/2oLevpM
It’s even got the black wheels.

But one E200MMC has just been painted into Corporate base livery, (https://flic.kr/p/2psrB6r), so hopefully 5491s odd new design is a one off special for whatever reason.

I can't see a new Corporate livery coming - these have been on loan to GNW and repainting on the way back from there seems sensible given that the Green Arrow brand has disappeared and there would probably be panel damage with the removal of the "Bee Network" vinyls.

Ngl I think I'd lose the plot listing them all, I always quite liked the Swoops v2 livery, it kind of improved it and made it more modern but the rest is stupid.

That's it, I knew there was something else inbetween the Northern and the last swoops but couldn't think of it. Crazy ain't it? It's not as if it's done a world of wonders either since Stagecoach isn't bust right now, it's arguably doing much stronger.

Without any vinyls that looks like a very low-budget independent style livery.

This is purely down to the fact they were immediately pressed into service at Consett rather than going via Saltmeadows.

6190 returned from Go North West at the weekend, and this one is getting vinyled up first at Saltmeadows.

This is doing my head in if they're so focused on having specific colours for the Xlines. (instead of doing the cost saving thing of all black & gold from the get go).

This is what I would have done from the off;
X1 - Pink (to complement Connections 4)
X5/X15 - Blue (to complement Durham Diamond 16/16A - now abandoned)
X10 - Black
X6/X20 - Purple (to compliment Prince Bishops 20)
X21 - Light Green (to compliment Angel 21)
X30/X31 - Dark Green
X45/X46/X47 - Dark Green
X70/X71 - Dark Green
X84/X85 - Yellow

This could then be (with the changes to routes X5/X15/X6/X20/X46/X47/X84/X85);
X1 - Pink
X10 - Black
X20 - Purple
X21 - Light Green
X30/X31/X45/X71/X72 - Dark Green

But i would've been easier to paint everything into gold and black or red as the black is the smartest and red fits with GNE's livery.
Rapidsnap   16 Jan 2024, 1:58 pm
Reason X1 went red was because of the Red Arrows brand that came before it.

Just get shot of X Lines, it pointless and makes no sense.

21: Angel
X21: Angel Express
20: Prince Bishops
X20: Prince Bishops Express
X5/X15/X30/X31/X71/X72/X45/X46: Corporate
X10: Tyne Tees Express
X1: Red Arrows

Sorted, everyone knows what The Angel is so if they see an express version of it they'll know it's quicker - same with the 20/X20. There's absolutely nothing different between X Lines buses and normal buses and half of them aren't express buses anyway and aren't the way you'd drive either if we're going down that route unless you like driving aimlessly around Rainton Bridge, Burnopfield or Whickham to pick 3.

and what's an 'X Lines route'. We know what it means but to the general public it's just another brand with the other 50 brands GNE have. Go to Consett, it might aswell be just the whole network.

They're not express, they're not routes you drive, they're not nicer buses on certain routes. Thankfully other operators who GNE copied saw how pointless it was and scrapped it.

It's one of the worst branding exercises ever going and blatently failed as every single route has had substantial cuts or is now funded by the tax payer and replaced brands with recognition ie Red Kite and Red Arrows, in particular.

The most ironic part of it, the most express route in the network (X66) isn't part of it.

Brands should just be

NorthEastXpress
- X10, X21, X30/X31 (see below about X30/X31)

CityLink
- 21, 56

Coast Road (unsure what brand could be)
- 306, 307, 308, 309

CityRider (current Voltra routes)
- 53, 54, Q3

Everything else corporate!

And to further aid the NorthEastXpress idea.....a single fleet type (E400MMC) operating from Riverside with following changes

- X30/X31 moved to Riverside. X31 extended to Lanchester in place of the 6. Remote reliefs at Eldon Square or Ellison Road.

- 12 re-interworked with the 6 and moved to Consett. 6 curtailed at Stanley.

20x E400MMC
- 4x - X10
- 8x - X21
- 4x - X30/X31
- 4x spare

Since inception, X-lines routes were described as ‘interurban routes’ which were express/limited stop - akin to Arriva with their MAX brand.

The X66 doesn’t fit that criteria, but those services branded as X-lines all do.
