It's a variation so I think we are just wondering if it's coming back to full service or not...
RE: July 2024 changes
The 65 change will probably just be a timetable change to the service from Durham that arrives in Seaham around 3 pm which then goes on a peak 861 to Murton then runs dead to Durham for a 20 to Sunderland

The section between Heworth and Wardley is secured by Nexus and the contract renews this July.

Yes, Go North East currently hold the contract to run the 57 between Heworth and Wardley. That contract will renew this July.

That is insane. GNE get NEXUS to pay to go around Wardley, but are happy to have the bus sit at Market Street for 20+ minutes on their own watch. THAT is what is wrong with the current system.

But Nexus don’t have to pay GNE - Dan said it’s been out to tender so GCT, Aline or JH could have tendered and won it.
With the convoluted route around Wardley it takes longer Heworth-Wardley-Heworth than the 57 sits in Newcastle.
GNE would actually save a load of money if they curtailed the 57 at Gateshead, but that would require consultation under the EP (and who is going to say yes to the question “would you like your bus service curtailing at Gateshead”?

(07 Jun 2024, 11:35 pm)F114TML wrote It'll be a variation of the 201, probably just going the other way round Bracken Hill or something silly. If they brought the 202 back it'd be a separate reg.
Whatever the change on 201/202 is it will be instigated by Durham CC as it’s a tendered service.

Washington is supposed GCT as a 37 again, the other 2 who knows yet. The registration for the 39 only would be technically right though as it doesn't go to Pennywell that's the 39A/39B. But it might be the answer - who knows.

The hell could the revised route of the 57 be. There's nothing much you can change unless they send it via part of the 67/69 route
RE: July 2024 changes
there's hell on ..... with the 67 and 69 no longer going as far as wardley- losing connection to qe from there and leam lane. GNE don't endure themselves to potential punters do they??!!

The route the 67/69 take to the QE don't follow the 57 after Wardley so probs a lost connection for a lot of people

it does but 2 things

it drops off at durham road where as the 67/69 drop off outside main entrance and also serve windy nook entrance and entrance e

as above it doesnt follow the 67/69 route. it also takes a lot longer going via the OK coral know as becon lough east!

I've had secret insight in to the GNE comms strategy and they're currently identifying proposals which involve several changes at obscure locations across the East Gateshead area.

Sure it was mentioned earlier that GNE are taking it back on commercially.

Personally think have GNE missed an opportunity here with this new X73, should've extended it to Lanchester replacing the 6 in order to provide a faster express service to MetroCentre and Newcastle for those along that section of route.

It otherwise seems like they are duplicating the 6 for the most part between Stanley and MetroCentre/Newcastle whilst potentially offering a combined frequency of Every 20 Mins on shared sections of the route.

Imo this X73 is just stupid. They need to rewind the clocks and go back to two routes on a similar corridor to the 43/44 between Stanley and Newcastle, they worked for years and offer better links that the mess it is now after 200 changes. If the X70 is resurrected, there's no need for the X72 anymore. You might aswell make a proper express from Stanley to Newcastle via Gateshead instead rather than around the world and send that through to Lanchester instead.

I normally agree with you, but i think 200 changes is a bit of truth bending there, the should just bring the 43/43A (if there was a 43A might be getting confused with Arriva)/44/44A

Ha it was tounge in cheek, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's near 30 times, not being sarcastic. The amount of times the M5/M6/M7/6/7/X72/X30/97/1 has changed is absolutely ridiculous as they're all connected to the old 43/44 routes.

Agreed though, I'd probably just do the 6/7/7A though even known there's already two 6's at the Metrocentre. Want to say there used to be a B at one point aswell?

https://web.archive.org/web/201102251911...n/18437.64 - Btw for those too young for the 43/44 these were the routes in it's last incarnation (they changed a lot aswell).

Found a 44b timetable back from 2005.

Think they all ended up being included in the Stanley Shuttle 'brand'.

Can remember Saturday's being absolute carnage with those routes and the waits in places being ridiculous. Looking at the timetable, you can see why.
On a slightly connected note, my last ever ride on a Lance came after a sizeable wait in Dipton one Saturday afternoon. Can't remember what number it was, but it was a SS route.
Came complete with a paper desti.
