Go North East: Upcoming Service Changes

RE: GNE Bus Changes.
(04 Aug 2014, 6:56 pm)Dan wrote I'd imagine it will assist with the withdrawal of the last Volvo Olympians in the fleet - so at a guess, I think the contracts which they've lost would have mostly been lost by choice rather than because a competitor has had a better bid.

Least they have a few to do, which i imagine will interwork with other services?

I'm not sure how each scholar works

Depends on the scholar service.

There are some which are standalone which are driven by dedicated school bus drivers. Others interwork with normal commercial service work, as you say.

I forgot about the 307 changing. GNE havent got the timetable up yet.

The 28/28A is also changing from the 31st and still no timetable.

(04 Aug 2014, 7:59 pm)Michael wrote Cant see much difference or maybe its because im on my phone.

After looking at the old and new timetables the only changes I can see affect the Monday to Friday timetable and these are that the:

07:13 28A now departs Newcastle at 07:11
16:13 28A now departs Newcastle at 16:17
08:32 28A now departs Chester-le-Street at 08:28 and operates additionally via Newfield, and therefore serves Grange Villa Club and West Pelton Lawson Court, not Stone Row
17:50 28 now departs Chester-le-Street at 17:48
RE: GNE Bus Changes.
Service 307:

Unfortunately, due to low passenger numbers most journeys on this service are withdrawn.
There will continue to be a journey on service 307 at peak times on Monday-Friday for commuters, departing Wiltshire Drive at 0722 towards Newcastle, and departing Newcastle at 1645 towards Wiltshire Drive.

(25 Jul 2014, 3:06 pm)Marcus wrote I've got to disagree with you there - the 9:55 departure from Chester is always empty, but the 10:55 is always packed with kids going to the Metrocentre, as is the 11:55. After that it's always a bit hazy, sometimes it's a bit busy. The last X22 back to Chester is always packed with them coming back.

X22 is always decent as Marcus says.

Arriva's competing X24 carries no more than fresh air however

RE: GNE Bus Changes.
Why don't GNE curtail the evening 58's (not Sunday daytime) in Newcastle and allow the 309 / 310 to increase to every 30 minutes each. The 310 could reroute via Hadrian Park during the evenings and a flat 13 - 17 minute (Battle Hill Dr) or 15 minute (Station Road to Haymarket) would exist during the evenings increasing competition with Arriva ? For ticketing with the exception of the Citylink saver that would be valid regardless, through fares could be purchased allowing use both on the 310 and 58. The 58 would terminate at the Civic Centre and would arrive 5 mins before the 310 towards Hadrian Park ans five minutes after towards Heworth and Gateshead.

Do GNE have an up to date drawing for the Pronto, it's nearly two years since the X20 was part of the Pronto brand.

Probably not - they would have paid for that graphic to be drawn when the original brand design was made.

Although it's not ideal, should the Pronto receive investment this year, the chances are that it won't retain the "Pronto" brand name...

Do you think they'll consider increasing the 309 / 310 to every 30 mins each during Monday to Sunday evenings?

Yes, but only when the loads justify it.

The run up to christmas would be a good time to try it out. For instance, they could increase the frequency from the first Sunday of November and by the time that spell has ended, word would've got out that the 309 / 310 has become more frequent and it would be suatainable.

Likewise.

Integrating the Angel and the Pronto, with the latter as 'Express', could work wonders - as I'd suggest that the Angel is one of Go North East's more recognised brand names. Not sure what it would look like in terms of livery design, but the name certainly works for me.

Defiantly, sounds much better.

What colour would u have it in?, same as the angel?

I would - I don't think the green base livery wholly represents the fact that the buses are 'green' (eco-friendly), so no reason for this 'Angel Express' not to be green, imo.

Liking the sound of Angel Express, Think we should revert back to the Pink Colour Scheme with the Current Angel Branding

Dont think that would look very nice imo. Think it would need to stay as green unless the brand needs to be completely redesigned to suit pink (baring in mind places will need to be changed anyway as the X21 serves Spennymoor and Bishop Auckland etc).

Not forgetting that on evenings and Sundays, services 21 and X21 interwork.

Most customers will recognise the bus by its colour, so I think from that perspective, green would work well.
