Very interesting article, following the success of their ADL E300 bodied K270UBs. The demonstrator vehicle is expected to have an E400 MMC body.

I wonder whether SNE's Walkergate and Slatyford Depots have enough room for a gas fuelling facility?

Wouldn't mind them on the 16.
Not sure for the space in the Newcastle depots but i do think they will get gas buses in Newcastle in the future, although i still think they want to make Sunderland fully gas operated.

Least they gonna use the same engines as the latest batch of 23 which were delivered to Sunderland.
I hope Sunderland get the demo, when its out.

Last Paragraph
"Scania will also offer a diesel double-deck chassis at Euro 6, powered by a 250bhp nine-litre engine. This is the same unit which will be used in the Irizar i2 and i3 single-deck buses built on Scania chassis, with Mr Oliver stressing that despite earlier reports suggesting a Cummins unit was to be fitted, Scania’s own nine-litre engine is to be used in both."

Can't be doing that, we should keep them for a Personal Amusement when looking over Posts as and when required.

You mean the posts that swap every vehicle in the fleet around to increase the PVR on the 309/310 by 2?!
In all seriousness though Davey's posts lighten my day up.

I'm pleased that Scania are offering a 9 litre engine with their E400 chassis but I wonder whether Arriva would pull their fingers out if the Cummins units on the X15 and X18 start playing up? What Arriva could do in a few year if they wanted to upgrade the X10 / X11 is this:
- 7522 to 7528 to Blyth for X10 / X11.
- 7529 to 7533 refurbished to Sapphire spec and joining the above.
- 7501 and 7502 to Blyth acting as spares.
- 15 new Sapphire spec Scania Euro 6 MMC's to Ashington for the X21 / X22 joined by a further 2 new spares in Max spec and corporate livery.
- 10 new Max + Scania Euro 6 MMC's to Ashington for the X15 / X18 joined by a further spare in normal Max spec and corporate livery. Max + would basically be Sapphire but with no Audio announcements due to the long distances and Max branding.

I was interested to see where the storage/fuelling point would be. Those pictures have clarified them. I wonder if additional protection, will be given around the internal casing?

Looks smart in Blue.
Does anyone know where the gas will be stored?, as the single deckers have the pods on the top, as seen on Daniels photo: https://www.flickr.com/photos/danielgrahamm/14290155712
Edit:
Also i don't know if the gas has a special name or not as its fuel so i just said "gas"... If you know, please correct me.
