Go North East: Upcoming Service Changes

RE: Go North East: Upcoming Service Changes
Serious question here folks, if Arriva don't up their game in Northumberland and run the 57 reg heaps of sparkling crap into the ground, do you think GNE could take Arriva on not just Ashington to Newcastle, but other routes too? I know they've got the local links but GNE offer far more outside of S.E Northumberland (Ten, Ttx, Angel, Red Arrows, NPower and if you miss the 19, 309/X39).

Personally, I'd love to see GNE go into the area, as I'd like to see what Arriva could do in response. I'd assume not a lot.

I doubt GNE would, if they were to introduce routes, use anything more unreliable and tired than the 57-reg Enviro 400's.

GNE have in the past already tried Northumberland routes with the bargain bus range of services between Newcastle - Blyth and Newcastle - Ashington and after purchasing Northumbria Coaches Newcastle - Morpeth/Thropton/Rothbury. I don't think GNE will be in a rush to move back into these routes again.

in my option if GNE did move into there patch Arriva are far bigger and will move buses from other regions (loads of London stuff coming off soon) and flood the area with extra buses/services.

Langley Lane is a road that isnt very wide and has a lot of overhanging trees - won't be surprised if the services have a full Venture SR allocation on Saturday like they do on evening and sundays. Obviously, one SR will be missing (possibly 2 with the 689) meaning a couple of deckers would be allocated to the Ventures instead.
RE: Go North East: Upcoming Service Changes
Just saw 309 changes on NCC. No journeys cut but GNE could easily fill those B9s up more if they did the following:

- Retime all Monday to Saturday 309 / 310 journeys to ensure that they arrive 2 minutes before Arriva at Haymarket and 2 minutes after for the most part of the day.
- Retime all evening journeys to arrive at 02, 17, 32, 47 and depart at 05, 20, 35, 50. This would mean a frequency increase for both services to every 30 minutes during the evenings.
- Retime all Sunday daytime journeys to arrive at 11, 26, 41, 56 and depart at the same times past and to the hour as the evening journeys.
- Make the last 309 to Blyth 2220 and the last 309 (310 on a Sunday Night) at 2320 and last 310 (not on a Sunday Night) at 2335.
- Split the 309 and 310 / X39 at all times bar a Sunday daytime and bring a B7 over from Riverside as a spare or 6100 if reliability improves on the Fab 56.

It is indeed. Goes along some nice 'countryside' like roads too. As i was saying the other day, Langley Lane has a few overhanging trees and isn't very wide so hope 2 buses don't need to pass eachother!

Sorry to disappoint, Tommy, but no bus wars this time!

Where's my acknowledgment for guessing the 28/28A timetable changes would be it running to Beamish Museum entrance for the summer?

I'm aware it was pretty obvious but that's not the point!

At least GNE are being dilligent unlike a certain green bus that supposedly gets good layover time in Newcastle during PM peak but always ends up 10-15 minutes late due to it not getting any additional time for schools and between Station Road and Newcastle. At least the 309 / 310 will run 6 minutes behind the 306 / 308 to Newcastle on a Sunday daytime now after 22nd March rather than 2-3 minutes. That'll also mean 8 mimutes after the 306 / 308 too towards Shields and Blyth.

Hopefully this new awareness of traffic around major employment sites and adapting the timetable to suit means we see something done with the 93/94 Wink

There's about five GNE Red buses which drop onto the 93/94 on evenings after working other services - I think that's meant to help things out reliability-wise.
