Deptford was created by closing Park Lane and Philly.
Don't forget also at the time the 526 monkton lane to Marsden went to Washington depot. And the 550 fellgate to south shields Got withdrawn And replaced by Sunderland roads revised 57/557 services.  South shields didn't get merged it got closed and split up

I've always found it interesting to find out about former route numbers, etc.

A few I know of for definite;

Service 778 - now Service 78
Service 551 - now Service 50
Service 734 - now Service 34

The whole 722/23/24 thing has always confused me. Was the 724 Newcastle-Bishop Auckland and the 723 Newcastle-Darlington? Smile

551 wasn't the 50. The 551 ran Sacriston to South Shields via Washington. The 50 was the X50.

50 is a mix version of what was the 551 and x50

551 was sacriston to south shields (531 many moons ago) and the x50 was Durham to south shields

That's another thing that's always confused me lol! Tongue

I'm sure we've talked about the X50 before, maybe in the ''Controversial Services'' thread? Didn't it interwork with the X20 or something?

Yes. When the x20 and x50 were introduced they both ran south shields to Durham using ex OK travel optare deltas 4801 to 4807 excluding 4802 which wasn't at same depot. They thenCurtailed the x20 to do Sunderland to Durham only but always interworked with x50

Nothing confusing at all to be honest. Just a change of number and route One via Sunderland one via washington. both limited stop express. Much better than what we have now with the 20 and the 50. What a coincidemce they have similar numbers and routes almost 20 years later.

Will Percy Main ever get a new depot? I remember when rumors were going around about them moving to the Tyne Tunnel Industrial Estate.

They have been pruning back and clearing a lot of the trees and bushes between the depot and petrol station.
No idea who owns the land or the reason for clearing it.

That plot of land at the bottom of Vigo Lane is still Vacant I believe, think I have mentioned this spot in previous conversations about potential New Bus Depots and it would be perfect for Washington and Chester le Street Services, I reckon the majority of Stanleys Services could be moved to Riverside if there is enough space e.g. Diamond/Red Kite/X30/X31/X43/X70 and X71, Leaving the 8/78/15/15A and the Ventures to merge in with Washington/Chester.

That's something I've always wondered... When were Go North East's current depots built? It's not always the first thing you think about, but I imagine most members have only a vague idea! Riverside and Chester-le-Street are obvious ones, but what about the others?

A canny age.
There was another depot, further towards Wallsend (Willington Quay?), which moved to Percy Main.
Reckon that was about 20years back.

if any services are moved from stanley when (and if) the depots are merged, A LOT of timetable changes would need to be done. doubt theyd want to redesign most of the timetables...

It's like anything else I suppose. If weighed up, the benefits outweigh the negatives, then it'll happen. I personally don't think it will (to include Stanley at least).

Noticed Yesterday that the time displays on the Quaylink bus stops on the Quayside (ones just past the Tyne Bridge) are now showing the times of the services, they had previously been displaying 'Please use timetable' for as long as I can remember

.... And I'm sure all the other stops these screens were removed ... I think.

Was there any timetable changes when Sunderland Road/Winlation merged into Riverside last year?, sure the only thing that changed were where Driver Changeovers occurred.

I think this may be the page: http://malsfotofile.smugmug.com/HeyshamD...3973897547&k=XBJR7zj

Towards the bottom, you can see one with a green Streetlite. Think there's some on the next page too.

Yes but you arent moving services 3-5 mile down the road...a lot of Stanley services start at Stanley/Consett. A long way to travel from Riverside.

From what I'm looking at, there are only 2 red Streetlites displayed in the photos. There is a Borismaster; two red Streetlites; then two green Streetlites.

There was one minor change.

The last TEN of the day heading towards Newcastle used to go as far as Blaydon Bus Station before heading up the bank, still in service, terminating at Winlaton. Ditto service 47 after Winlaton Mill.

Obviously there's no need for either service to do this now.

It's not that much of a problem though - no different to us running buses from Stockton to Brotton (20.7 miles) or Easington (24.3 miles) - 9 out of the 10 start up there...

over 20 buses per day though? a lot of timetable changes would still need to be made and i see no logic in transferring at all.
