News, debate and discussion on London's Bus Operations.
As the NBFL has struck discussion in other parts of the forum, it seems appropriate to mention this one!
It appears that a NBFL was involved in a minor incident towards the end of last month.

Like the press-cuttings thread for bus operations in the North East; this is the thread to post interesting news items from other parts of the country. Discussion welcome.
A potential bus war? Or will we see First give up the Wilmslow Road corridor and discretely return to North Manchester while Stagecoach return to the south?

Jobs saved as famous bus firm gears up for takeover
2 Aug 2013 11:07
Finglands, the Manchester-based bus firm is set to be bought by FirstGroup in a£50,000 deal, which will see all its 100 staff transfer to the new owners.
The end of an era is approaching for commuters as one of Manchester’s most famous bus firms looks set to be taken over.
Finglands, which was established in 1907 and has been running services across the city for decades, is set to be swallowed up by First Manchester.
The deal would see the firm’s white buses with beige, orange and brown stripes taken off the streets of Manchester.
The company operates a number of commercial bus routes and school contracts in the south and east of the city.
As part of the £50,000 deal, First Manchester will take over Finglands’ existing routes and acquire the lease of its depot on Wilmslow Road in Rusholme.
All of the 100 staff in Finglands’ bus operation would also have their employment transferred to FirstGroup as part of the deal, which needs to be ratified by the Office Fair Trading.
Finglands’ fleet of 41 buses would not be included in the purchase and bosses at Finglands’ owners East Yorkshire Motor Services group have indicated they would be used elsewhere.
First Manchester currently operates around 700 buses and employs 2,000 staff.
Over the last year the firm has cut fares on many routes by up to 30pc and saw an eight percent rise in passenger numbers in the three months between April and June this year.
In Finglands’ last filed accounts, it made a loss of £266,000 and bosses at the company said the sale was aimed at securing jobs. The firm is currently in consultation with 14 staff regarding the future of its coach business, which is separate from the bus operation.
Peter Harris, finance director at East Yorkshire Motor Services, which acquired Finglands in 1992, said: “It is no secret we have made a loss for the last few years. This is an ideal opportunity for us to work with First and secure as many jobs as possible.”
Dave Alexander, regional managing director for First in the north of England, said: “This acquisition demonstrates our commitment to Greater Manchester and represents an excellent opportunity to further grow bus passenger volumes.”

Good afternoon everyone, and I'm delighted to announce on behalf of site management that, yesterday (Sunday 4th August 2013), was North East Buses' first birthday. As I'm sure you'll agree, the site is evolving constantly, and for those of you that haven't joined within the last month or so, you'll know just how far the site has come and how development of the site is a ongoing effort from all members of the community. Although the site's management team may contribute towards the creation of new features to the site, it is the community that help these features thrive. For those of you that joined a year ago, you'll have probably seen about 50 "forum facelifts" (as I now call them), and I can guarantee that these cosmetic changes will continue until our next birthday (at least!) to ensure that the site and forums look perfect and functions with little problems.
As part of our expansion plan which came into fruition approximately three months ago, I am glad to say that within the next few days, our first Fleet News report will be issued. As part of this update, we are pleased to announce that Scott Cooper (tyresmoke) will join the Forum Team. Scott currently manages North East Bus News; due to work commitments, Scott's weekly updates have been difficult to achieve. North East Buses - as regular viewers of Scott's website - realised this, and invited Scott to "merge" with our website to provide bi-weekly "official updates" alongside other Fleet News Reporters for the three main bus operators within the North East: Arriva North East, Go North East and Stagecoach North East. We hope that this will ease Scott of pressure on his website (which he manages alone), where he will now only cover fleet news for independent operators within the North East on a regular basis, while being assisted by other North East Buses Fleet News reporters for updates on this website.
At present, we will not provide official fleet news updates for independent operators. If Scott chooses not to renew his domain when it runs out, it is possible that he will either revert to a free domain name or that he will "merge" once more to North East Buses (which will presumably have grown even further by the time that happens). For now, however, normal discussion can continue on the forums for these independent operators; official fleet news, as well as fleet lists, will be provided on Scott's website.
North East Buses' fleet news section will work slightly differently to the current fleet news issued by Scott on his website. Though we have not made a concrete decision just yet, we anticipate that each Fleet News reporter will cover one bus operator. With myself covering Go North East, and Scott likely to cover Arriva. It either means we both need to manage Stagecoach or someone else also becomes a Fleet News reporter. In addition to managing the Fleet News, it is possible that they will also manage their respective operator's fleet list too. Instead of hosting the images on our server, we aim to collect most of the images from Flickr so that they will be hosted there instead. As normal members of Flickr now have 1TB of storage space on Flickr, we don't expect these images to be deleted. This also means that we shouldn't need to contact the respective authors of the photograph as we are providing a thumbnail of the photograph which, when clicked, will link to the photograph on Flickr itself. As we average on 500+ unique hits per day, this should result in a nice "reward" or "thank you gift" from North East Buses to the author of the photograph on Flickr - hopefully giving them a further 100-200 hits on the photograph itself.
More updates will be provided on the forum at a later date, and I hope to edit the "Fleet Lists" page later today after speaking to Liam so that we can provide another link to the Fleet News here. It's a little outdated anyway, as we have provided a link to the Metro fleet list on there!
Finally, we welcome Adrian (aureolin) to the forum's moderation team! To ease pressure on the administration team who presently moderate as well as administrate, Adrian's name will now show in a different colour and he can decide using his personal judgement whether a post has overstepped the mark or not. Adrian is a valued member of the community, and has proven that he is extremely dedicated to North East Buses. Whether he's striking debate in the continually growing "Quality Contracts" section or starting up a new topic of conversation elsewhere in the forum (perhaps in a place that is less used than other parts), he endeavors to make North East Buses a better website than it is at present. He will be an asset to the forum team, and I'd like to congratulate him on his new role and thank him for all the hard work he has done for NEB.

For anyone that missed it (or doesn't watch it!). Arriva London's LT7 was on Top Gear tonight. Should be on iPlayer later.

Due to matters outside of our control, our website experienced a small amount of downtime for less than an hour today.
This downtime was universal amongst all websites that use Bihira as a web hosting provider.
Sorry for any inconvenience caused, and we hope that this will not happen again in the near future.

Yourbus are operating an allover white vehicle on the Cathedral/Station service in Durham today - rather than the Electric Solo.
Not sure if this has become a regular thing.
Didn't catch the vehicle model, but it was one of the newer type Optare/Wright style buses (I was waiting at the roundabout into North Road when it was on the opposite side heading towards the station).
As vague as ever!

Northern spares, yes okay. Quick, reliable, fast, express service, they ain't. There is constant break downs, which if they are not careful will put passengers off- I for one will sometimes just use the 60 if going Sunderland-Seaham if the X7 is more than 8-10 minutes late despite the X7 been 15 minutes quicker and I can't be the only one and again in Peterlee people will prefer the X9 to the X7 because the buses are bit more 'up class' to use a better term. So it will impact loadings if problems continue.
I would like to see the X7 get the 4 Solars from the OK1, then this new Hexham service (is it confirmed, was there a VOSA registration?) get spare Solars that are lying about, but I personally can't see this Hexham service lasting anyways (personal opinion). I mean once the StreetLites arrive Deptford have 5 Versas 'spare', wonder where they'll end up? Could any service end up the soon 'spare' Washington street Shuttle MPDs?
Do we have a date when Streetlites, Ciatro's and Versas are due?
I believe there was a vosa registration further back it was posted on here

Added to the fleet in March, Mercedes Vario P534PNE is now up for sale on eBay.
It looks like the vehicle has left The Eden, and a private seller is selling the vehicle (given the showroom of other vehicles including trucks etc).

Some interior shots and the like that we enthusiasts haven't photographed previously either, so it's nice to be able to see the old Stagecoach moquette.
