Hard disagree, phones are unreliable, a card will only fail you if you lose it or snap it in half.
Cards are 1990's tech imo. Like someone said this should be done by contactless not wasting time with physical cards or apps or whatever. Even National Rail is moving towards that near London and National Rail is generally 20 year behind the rest of the world.
A fair chunk of people don't carry any cards around these days, using mobile payments - they're just an inconvenience.
