As a conservative (and a crumbly) I don't want the bus station to move from its current position.
There was scope (many years ago) to expand the current site east to embrace the long derelict George and Jobling garage (which burned-out in a fire some 40 - 50 years ago), but the Council dragged their feet until the site was granted planning permission for housing (which never happened as the owner who acquired the site died).
The justification is that 'it would be too expensive to acquire the site' - and NCC will get paid for selling the bus station site to Dysart and using the site at Loosing Hill (owned by NCC) for the new bus station.
In the pipeline during the year is the complete closure of the main road into town from the A69 trunk road, Rotary Way, for six weeks to allow for the re-waterproofing of the bridge over the railway line.
There will be massive disruption on Corbridge Road as work begins on the new bus station, which includes work on the two mini-roundabouts closer to the site.
Improvements to the pedestrian crossing on Station Road are also scheduled, along with the resurfacing of Alemouth Road.

From observations, the workers on the site put in a shift on Saturday...
There's a very large impenetrable fence around the site, so it's difficult to see what's happening. I thought I saw work with perimeter kerbs, but I might be wrong. I understand there won't be any incursion into the roads nearby during the first three months, which gets us to May.

Team Valley 'Bus Station'.
A neglected and underused facility, with surrounding stops built nearby.
I propose the station is reintroduced and made in to a two-way facility.
Northbound services along Kingsway to turn left in to the facility and then exit via Tenth Avenue.
Southbound services (inc the X32) to use Tenth Avenue, the bus station and loop via Kingsway roundabout.
Improvements to pedestrians access to Retail World too, using space alongside the Halfords store.

So, not only does peterlee bus station have the 21a and 22 down for the same stand at the exact same time, it has all arriva services labeled DC.
I could be scratching my head for a while about that one.

So the boards at Durham now say DC instead of ANE, too. They weren't working at all, on Wednesday. Seems a rather odd update, if that's why they were down. Â

DC will stand for Arrivas South of Tyne operations change 2 years ago, They changed all County Durham Depots ( and Redcar and Whitby ) to a new operator licence under the name Arriva Durham County

Although Arriva Durham County and Arriva Northumbria use the name "Arriva North East". Durham County Council haven't done themselves any favours changing to DC when it used to be ANE... especially when nobody calls it "Durham County"...!

Haha yes, its pretty pointless changing it.

I'm not sure why theve dropped the A, They might be a reason behind it.

Maybe if the bus doesn't turn up, no-one knows who the operator is by looking at the departures board

Durham county is what 'DC' stands for, meaning Arriva Durham County probably

Kinda related...the Nexus digital screens on Durham Road don't seem to able to cope with X21 and 21 on evenings and Sunday's.
They either show X21 or both X21 and 21 at the same time. I did raise this with Nexus but was told it's based on the info the operator provides which seems to be a cop out. Common sense not prevailing....well it's nexus

Sometimes they only look at the destinations. It's pretty common for people to catch the 22 to Sunderland before they realise that it takes 40 minutes longer than the 20/20a
I think we're in a position at the moment where there is no duplicate numbering between arriva and gne services around co Durham but there has been, even in the recent past, so if DCC are going to have the operator on display in their bus stations, they may as well make it useful.

A similar issue occurs at the Haymarket, passengers look at the destination on the board and it may say the number 51, this is much slower than the 308 or 309 for example. Sometimes however the numbers can be misleading. The 308 is faster than all the MAX buses Newcastle to Blyth
