Where have you obtained the frequencies from? Would the 353 cope hourly as that is quite busy is it not?

Around 2006/7 they had the 350/351, on top of that they had the Killingworth local service K1/K2. They also did the Evening and Sunday runs on the 101.
I've checked through all my Classic Buses photos from that time period, and if they had ran on the 343/4 I would have least have a record of it.

I doubt that any operator will wish to operate it commercially, so Nexus (who already fund half of the route) will have to decide if it's going to fund the other half.
And once they have decided if they are, they will have to issue a tender, get the tender submissions back, and then award the contract.

I think its great GNE are trying to get back into North Tyneside, will the 352 ,353 ,354 ,355 do the exact same routes as their ANB (Arriva Northumbria) counterparts, 52, 53, 54, 55?

Don't believe the 811 ever existed under Hunters but I could be wrong.

They got merged with the 442 when the takeover happened though, with them being merged together.

810 was Cramlington to North Shields via High Pit, Seaton Delaval and Whitley Bay.  The 811 was Cramlington to North Shields also, but instead of High Pit it ran past Cramlington High School.

Yeah just checked before your right, must've happened at deregulation when it got extended to Cramlington. I knew it was those routes under the Arriva days, but wasn't sure whether it was pre or post the Hunters days. I'm surprised the 57A hasn't been converted to the 811 route yet to try though mind and get an even headway from Cramlington - should be similarish to the 57 timewise and give some vital extra waiting time, it's horribly delayed lately.

According to the history above it was direct to British Bus in 1994, but you're probably right as the garage didn't get sold, so wouldn't really work.

Moordale definitely did. Not sure about Hunters though.

Some further info on Hunters: At Deregulation in 1986, they ran a 342 from North Shields via Tynemouth, Marden Estate, Preston North Road, NT Hospital, New York, West Allotment and onto Four Lane Ends.

At a later stage the 342 was withdrawn and sometime later still, the section of the 342 between North Shields and the hospital was reintroduced as service 812.

Hunters also ran part of a 358 Seaton Delaval – Earsdon – Shiremoor – Backworth – Seghill – Seaton Delaval circular service, a C3 Cramlington local service and, for a time, the 444 from Linton – Ashington – North Blyth – Bedlington. I've got this from the timetables of the early 1990s.

I do not know of Hunters operating the 350/1.

Yes they did (well sort of).  When the Hunters business was aquired, Northumbria moved the operation to Moor Dale's garage at Dudley (as Northumbria owned them) and they operated out of there for a while.  It was during this time that the local service work of Moor Dale was changed to be operated by Hunters.  These services were the 350/351 (Dudley Circulars) as mentioned but also the 365/366 (Freeman Hospital/Four Lane Ends to Cramlington).

When Stagecoach decided to operate to Cramlington with their service X43 to compete with Northumbria, the 365/366 was extended from Freeman Hospital into Newcastle in retaliation, but it didnt last too long (and neither did the X43).

At some point Proudmutual sold the coach side of the business to its former owners.

Great that GNE have got the soon to be ex-Arriva services!

But for heavens sake, don't go tinkering with them. Unless actual 'improvements', keep them stable!

Regular punters on all routes involved who are set in their ways! If GNE keep the proven formula stable, I can't see why they won't be a success

As I remember it, the 342 became the 812, which I have noted before. There was a 352 for a short time, following a different route in North Shields to Preston Village but I can't remember where it went after that. It was registered by OK Travel, but the only times I saw it it was a Northern vehicle, presumably on hire to OK. That route didn't last long.

Just checked the bygone era, there was 352 registered in 1997,does that sound about right?

With the 354 changing to run to North Shields instead of Whitley Bay, will Stagecoach still run the evening & Sunday 54 as it is to Whitley Bay as per tender?

Or will they have to operate the 'evening' variant of the 354?

The secured 54 is ran under tender until it either comes up for review or is withdrawn by Nexus (or Stagecoach decide chuck the contract). There is no obligation for Nexus to alter the service just because daytime operations have been taken on commercially by another operator. In effect, they're two different services.

It's a bit of a mess now, as there's now also Shiremoor / Killingworth / Backworth to Whitley Bay and NT Hospital added to the gaps now the 54 has been diverted to North Shields and the hospital has been a problem for years with missing links.

That might be the solution Nexus eventually implement.

If they brought the 59 back, that would be even more of a justification to scrap the 335 from Cobalt to North Shields if they routed it around Murton Village.

Possibly tbf, I'm not sure what the numbers are like at the Eastern side though, could even make the shout to terminate it at Hadrian Park instead - no real need for the Cobalt link either it's covered by the (3)53/307/309 tbh.

- 354 - Serves NT Hospital instead of Cobalt - link as was bar Cobalt. Just does Rake Lane down to NT Hospital then back up before commencing to Nortb Shields or Newcastle.

- 353 - Continues to serve Cobalt - link as was.

Both even out at either end except New York where frequency might be 25/35 rather than a flat 30.
