October 2025 Service Changes
RE: October 2025 Service Changes
X21 temp change
Change of terminus: Gateshead Interchange (until further notice)
Due to roadworks causing significant delays, Service X21 will terminate at Gateshead Interchange until further notice and will not continue to Newcastle.
If you’re waiting at Eldon Square for the X21, please travel to Gateshead Interchange on Service 21 and connect with the X21 there.
We’re sorry for the disruption and appreciate your patience while these works are ongoing.

Good customer service that mind, just dump someone off short when the bus is already 20 minutes late anyway. How on earth can you connect to something running on a timetable all over the place.
If it was every 10 minutes, then fair play, but it isn't.
Whatever happened to the days of adding an extra bus to the PVR temporarily and regulating services...

Indeed, particualrly useless on a matchday when buses arrive pretty much full into Gateshead (at least those Eldon Sq bound) and would probably be able to take 10 or so passengers.

RE: October 2025 Service Changes
The change to X21 is still showing on the app but has been removed from the website and looking at bustimes the X21 is crossing the river

That will be a nightmare, then. Will it mean that passengers travelling between , say,Spenny and Newcastle won’t be able to do it on two singles?

Quite shocking how GNE have kicked the can on the X10 & X21. Two former (or in part) prestigious ExpressLink / Superliner / GoXpress routes - once run by Metrobuses, Leyland/Volvo Olympians now barely getting by with hammered Enviro 400s or unsuitable B5TLs & StreetDecks as well as undercapacity & poor timekeeping.
IMO - GNE made a huge mistake with the Enviros back in 2020. Rather than using the 11x Enviros to mess around with the Derwentside network which just needed some fine tweaks & a chance to return to normal after covid - they should've used 8x E400MMC on the X21. Which would've been a huge welcome upgrade over previous ex-London B7TLs and StreetDecks 6301-07 previously allocated.
RE: October 2025 Service Changes
as much as it seems practical you must remember these work horses can be on the road for over 15hrs a day stop start slow fast moving vehicles...
if you have any knowledge about vehicles....
say have a brand new fleet of "branded" 21 Angel or X10 dedicated to the route after 30k miles the same parts will sadly fail
like a timing belt on a car to be changed every 60k miles
if you have 12 or 15 brand new buses all doing the same route the mileage will be similar so when it comes to the milestones they fail or need to be sorted out...
interestingly in a petrol/ diesel car there is 200 different moving parts
in an electric there is about 20

True. But B9TLs 6043-48 allocated on the X9/X10 (before the route as split meaning Tachographs) as well as the E400MMCs have both had it hard due to lack of suitable spares and fleet rotation.
The B5TLs actually had it easier but ended up spending half the time off the road being bailed out ironically by 6043-48 as well as 6071-83
IMO, the next decker order for Riverside should cover the 10/10A/10B/12, X10, X21. Either higher rated Cummins Ultroliners, or lobby Volvo to create a bi-axile B8TL!

Looks like the 20/20A/65 and X20 all now interwork... that's gonna be interesting to see how that does.
Looks like a mixture of Streetlites and B5's on the routes, wonder if we'll see the X-Lines repainted in to the Prince Bishops livery?

I have a feeling this might be until the new buses come into the fleet allowing other stuff to be displaced and older buses withdrawn.
