I guess it depends on whether there's a suspicion of some kind of inherent problem with the type. Diesels are well known, so the cause of a fire is likely to be understood, whereas the new technology of an electric vehicle may indicate a hitherto hidden design problem.

Been down to smoke at weekend. I know it's well subsidised but I think it would half the car use up her I'd the motor ran as often as underground and the buses like down there. Only thing bad is the cost of the tube isntbhalf shootingnup and they use the same stupid zonal.systme the metro does! Brilliant aervice

I was once again down London this past weekend and caught up with some of GAL's BYD BD11's on Services 129/474/SL4 (Canary Wharf-Grove Park) at various locations such as North Gteenwich, Stratford, Blackheath, East India Quay and Canary Wharf, they are also now on the 151 replacing the last DOE's but did not get as far as going over to Sutton for these - https://flickr.com/photos/adammalarkey/a...0325133761.
Whilst in Stratford I caught up with the new Wright Streetdeck Electroliners for Stagecoach East London which have replaced a mix allocation of Volvo B9TL's/Wright Streetdeck Micro-Hybrid on Service 257.
Finally I went to Brooklands Spring Gathering in Weybridge where Stagecoach London brought along an ADL Enviro 100EV (46033/YX25 NZA) & Superloop SL3 (Thamesmead - Bromley North Station) Enviro 400EV (80403/SK25 AOC) .

TfL unveils transformational 'Buses for London' as the capital's publicly owned bus company

Plans have been welcomed by Unite, suggesting that "Outsourcing to private companies hasn’t worked well for workers or passengers, and for too long bus workers have been subjected to intolerable working conditions and passengers have experienced worsening services while bus firms and their shareholders rake in huge profits."
The CPT, on the other hand, have criticised the plan. They claim that passengers “do not need a new public bus operator" and that "TfL focus and investment should be on where services users will actually feel the difference: tackling congestion, giving buses priority, and getting London moving.”
Either way, I'd suspect the City regions will be watching this one progress very closely.

It's about time imo. There's just so little benefit for this type of franchising imo, especially the way places like Liverpool are doing it
If you're setting the timetables, setting the fares, setting the way fares are collected, own the depots, (own the buses if it's Liverpool), then what on earth are we actually paying for?
All the hard bits are already done. It's just privatisation for the sake of it. The same privatisation which is heavily criticised for rail.
Mind that said there's some space for it, especially for places up here like Stanhope, Wooler etc where it's actually useful as there's no point building a depot for 2 or 3 routes and taking on those overheads when there's local companies around to pick it up instead who are already based there but franchising the big 3's network is a waste of money imo.
