RE: Stagecoach North East - Latest
Looks like a national roll out of a system they've been trialling in the likes of Bedford for well over two years now!

A Pennywell to City Centre and back to Pennywell round trip on Service 20 would take about 40 minutes, so with a 30 minute frequency, it would take 2 buses with a 20 minute layover somewhere.
Doing a Farringdon to City Centre journey on the 3 then a round trip on the 20 to Pennywell and back then City Centre to Hylton Castle on the 3 then back to Farringdon takes just on 2 hours so on a 30 minute frequency it uses just 4 buses in total.
Yes, this seems more the convenience of the company but it saves a bus then it keeps fares down and/or keeps the evening service commercially viable, so Customers do win as well. And anyone wanting to travel from the Durham Road area to Southwick still does have the 4 and 13 available, so I can't see that many people would be inconvenienced by this.
And there is a fair bit of history of this happening in Sunderland. In Corporation Transport days, the 1 (Grangetown and Dene Estate), 7 (Town Centre and Docks), 15 (Town Centre and 25 (Town Centre and Witherwack) had a really complex interworking.

(31 Mar 2014, 6:30 pm)Richard Smiles wrote I note that the vehicle orders for Stagecoach North East has increased from 48 vehicles by 3 to 51. At least two of the additional vehicles are those previously mentioned by MrNut85 i.e Two New Enviro 200s for South Shields, which are expected to be delivered in July.
As it currently stands (though subject to change of course), these will carry Fleet No.s 37143 & 37144.
I am still trying to establish what the 51st vehicle is & for which Depot but, I do have one or two theories.
(31 Mar 2014, 7:43 pm)Richard Smiles wrote As you mentioned a few days back, they are only buses, I was having to follow strict instructions as regards to the New Stuff for Teesside, but the Press release today takes us a step closer to what is coming.
I do also now know the proposed Fleet No. s for the New Teesside vehicles, but again have been told to keep quiet.
Basically so no one gets in bother, not that it is a National Security Issue of course.
Just a subtle hint though, the full block of E300 Fleet Numbers for the 2014/2015 orders run from 27101 - 27186.
