Arriva North East: Rare & Odd Workings - June 2014

RE: Arriva North East - Rare and Odd Workings
(29 Jun 2014, 5:18 pm)Marcus wrote I saw 1492 yesterday on the X2 - is that rare?

The X2 runs through CLS, where I live, so I occasionally get on it. Am I right when I say the Durham boards use Gemini 2s and the Stockton boards use Pulsars? I can name the Durham Deckers but there appear to be so many Pulsars from Stockton I can't keep track.

No.

As for the second bit, Durham use three Geminis and two Pulsars (although 1476 is rare because it is branded for the 6), and Stockton use three Pulsars.

Though for reference, Marcus, the Pulsars that carry the old-style corporate livery are seemingly more rare than the Pulsars that carry the new-style corporate livery (primarily because the ones with the old-style corporate livery are housed at Belmont).

And, 1476 carries ''A Captains Tale'' branding for the 6.

I've noticed a few carry names on the side. Was standing waiting for my 21 home a couple of weeks ago and it had a name - forgot what it was though.

Now that I have this information I'll have to keep my eyes peeled Big Grin

Belmont have 6 boards on Service X1/X2 not 5. I'm not sure how the Belmont allocations work though.

I tend to see the refurbished Pulsars on the X2 while in Chester, I personally think it looks much nicer than the old-style livery. It was the opposite though for the Arriva DAFs - I couldn't stand the ex-GNE ones from the Ashington swap that made their way to Stockton (I think 4007 rings a bell?) but I used to enjoy the original livery on them.

The newer liveried Pulsars are often used on the Durham workings rather than the old style ones.

I'm really sorry if it seems like I'm spamming here (Tongue), but can anyone tell me of the fates of some of the Stockton Prestiges like 4052, 4050 and 4045? I remember getting them a lot on the X2 - haven't seen them in about a year!

Noticed them appearing on the x1/2 more and more recently.
No idea why these specific Pulsars are allocated over other non-route specific vehicles.

Now that I check the name list - Gary Parkinson was the one I saw a few weeks back.

Well 4045 was on the X14 the other day!
No idea about the rest.

Am I right when I say the Stockton ones are for local services? I was told by Keiron Bains that the Pulsars used to be Stockton's local vehicles, but it seems to have swapped. The odd one creeps out onto the X2 (albeit the last one I saw was about 3 months ago! Tongue) but it's like seeing a Sapphire off the 7 - it's only happened a few times!

4045 was withdrawn from Stockton but was then transfered to Blyth to replace the Geminis while they are refurbished to MAX specification for the X10/X11

4050 was actually a Darlington vehicle for the latter part of its life until withdrawn (I believe due to accident damage) so I doubt you'll have had it for the X2.

4052 was withdrawn from Stockton but it then was transfered to Darlington. It then later moved from Darlington to Jesmond where it is still in service along with sister 4051. 4051 had transfered from Durham when the Sapphire Pulsars entered service alowing Jesmond to withdraw 4072 which had transfered just there two months previously due to a timings issue with service 43/45.

Yeah 4050 was withdrawn after accident damage (brake failure on Service X66 I think).

4050 had to be the worst Prestige I had the misfortune in rifding, it rattled like hell, it sounded awful and one day it was making an alarming noise that sounded like someone was playing Operation next to me. Hated that Prestige glad its no longer with us.

Yeah they're very rare now, usually used as a last resort when things are running late... Durham should have a mix of 4/5 deckers and 1/2 Pulsars on their workings. The older livery ones are pretty rare but do appear from time to time, I think it's purely down to how many there is in each livery though rather than any instruction to keep them off.

Not as far as I know? Usually found on X20 I think... The coaches should be on X15 and the 100 really

Because some of the named ones used to be branded for other Stockton routes so wouldn't normally be on X1s. Now they can use anything.
