General TV thread
(05 Oct 2014, 10:26 am)Michael wrote Dr who is getting worse every week, getting to the point where i'm not gonna watch it all.... shame cause Peter Capaldi is a great actor.

Also

EastEnders bosses are thought to be recasting a major character - not sure who it is but its not NICK COTTON.

People are saying:

Steven Beale
Grant Mitchell (I hope not, gotta be Ross Kemp again)
Michelle Fowler
Martin Fowler
Zoe Slater
Little Mo
Zainab

In today's papers to - EastEnders: Timothy West to leave Stan Carter role - shame cause i think hes quite good in it

Nick Cotton also returns in a few weeks times according to reports.... should be mint when he returns!

The show also has a busy few weeks ahead with Linda Carter's rape storyline, the return of Nick Cotton and new developments in the Lucy Beale storyline all forming part of the build-up to Christmas and the 30th anniversary celebrations in February. (the link to Linda Carters rape is to a spoiler - open if u want)

Shit I missed it - was it Dean who raped her??

I predict..........Grant will come back with Sam for some sort of 're-wedding' after Phil recovers, and Grant has an affair with Sharon. Then Peggy comes back, and after Phil discovers the affair she has a heart attack and dies, and then Grant and Sam piss off again.

Don't ask why I think that. Tongue

It's also reveled that a major character could be recast - maybe that's who is following Lauren.

lmao Ian Beale... always making things worse....

Don't normally watch Eastenders, but caught it tonight.

The rape scene definitely gave enough detail to know she had been raped - without showing too much.

I remember reading a statement from one of the writers justifying showing the 'rape scene' pre-watershed.
They quoted that Linda being left on the table like a slab of meat was enough for 'older' viewers to understand what had happened, whilst younger viewers wouldn't think anything of it.

I have previously stated that it irritated me somewhat that all of these people were coming out as having been victims of child abuse by celebrities when they were younger, so long on from the event when evidence of it will be minimal. However, I do think it's really important that these 'issues' are tackled on TV in my opinion. Soaps are supposed to reflect real life, and this is a real life issue, so it certainly raises awareness of the issue and educates viewers too. Hopefully it gives fairly recent rape victims the confidence to come forward about their experience...

Aye, that's meant to be Phil's 'rival' - I referred to him in a post the other day.

There are all sorts of justifications or reasons for doing something - and I am a massive fan of the media being used as some sort of tool to help or encourage others, whether it is rape or an illness/disease of some type.
However, regardless of how long ago something happened with the celebrities and the allegations of assault, I hope the constant news coverage has encouraged victims to come forward.

As, as for the writer justifying that scene...
Linda picking her knickers off the floor would have probably been understood by many - regardless of age.

UPDATE:
Ofcom have stated there have been a number of complaints re last nights scene.
Without getting into the numbers complaining versus the total number of viewers debate - I am not a prude by any stretch of the imagination and have had a non-sheltered life, experiencing/witnessing a number of things, that I wouldn't wish on anyone. I was taken aback by the scene last night, so can only begin to imagine the impact it has had on others (good or bad).
It didn't leave much to the imagination and I am pleased, that my eldest son didn't see the scene.

No idea how far it broadcasts, but the @madeinTyneWear channel on Freeview, has started showing clips on ch8.

It seems to be split into two different segments. One being Sunderland, the other Newcastle/Gateshead.
I won't spoil it you haven't seen it, but its quite interesting to watch.

No idea what the output will be like once it broadcasts fully like.

After being teased on the EPG for months, I can't wait to give this a viewing.

Can't see it being up to much but I'll keep an open mind.

I managed to catch the Made in Tyne and Wear channel the other night but it's still showing the same preview clips that have been airing since the beginning of August.

I was under the impression that programming had started.

Does anyone know when it will?

Will we get repeat episodes of Quayside?

Intend on watching The Apprentice tonight before Waterloo Road. Shame it's the last series of the latter, though I have enjoyed it less in the last few series compared to the first few.

Anyone watching that Stand up to Cancer thing with Alan Carr and Davina McCall? Davina's face structure looks rather worrying - almost as if she's back on drugs again - and as I haven't seen her in anything since Big Brother, I could barely recognise her at first.
