This morning 7470 was on the X15 which leaves Berwick at 7:32. When it got to Alnwick it pulled in to the X18/X20 stand, changed number to the X20, and quickly went off again. I saw it later in the day in Ashington on an X20, so I assume it did do the X20 run.

The 0620 X15 from Alnwick to Berwick and the 0727 from Berwick Station to Alnwick works onto the X20.

OK, I've not been paying close enough attention then as I thought there'd been MAX liveried buses on that when I've seen it since the start of September.

I'm told its a loan, it wasn't on any allocation papers at Ashington last night when I tried to find it...
....not like Jesmond to be asking for loans!

Sure I saw a flash of cream earlier, too, so will try to catch sight of that on its way back from Sunderland - due to arrive there 4-ish.

Non-sapphire something or other headed into Durham on the 22 for 5-ish, but 10 minutes late. Been replaced by 24 branded pulsar. Edit it's 1519 - on its way back into Durham, running on time.
Edit: the mystery one from earlier is 1471. Will arrive in Durham in about 20 minutes, 10 minutes or so late.

Belmont only have so many Sapphire spares (three) so if a considerable number are off the road for whatever reason such as tests, or accident damage and then there is things such as regulating where another bus gets allocated to keep the service to time, for example 23 branded StreetLite 1576 was on the 7 last Thursday possibly down to an accident in the Newton Aycliffe area which caused delays. Also at least one of 1479 and 1517 has been out on the 7 most days over about the last fortnight in place of a 7 branded example. All these sorts of things can see missing Sapphire buses on the Belmont Sapphire services, it's just something that can happen from time to time and not just at Arriva, the same can happen at Go North East and Stagecoach as well with their branded buses/services.

The spare Sapphire streetlite, 1595 has been on the 22 all day, most days for the past fortnight. Some of this evening's odd workings quite clearly been designed to keep the service to time but out of 6 22 branded Streetlites but we've only seen one of those since mid afternoon - 1597 arriving in Durham at 3:30.
Which makes me wonder if something's afoot, other than just timing issues or an odd breakdown.

And - for the grand finale - 1518 on the 22
Big'un has spent a happy evening looking out of the window (a couple of old solos on the SB 58 only adding to his excitement)

The 6/22/24/56/57/57A were heavily delayed today in Durham, not sure why - so rather than letting buses run up to 20 odd minutes late, spare buses were allocated to keep things moving. Come 6-8pm, we started changing vehicles over to get the brands back to normal.
