Interesting. Wonder if it's being replaced with anything else. Not sure how much of the route is unique to that service.
Can someone please tell me which sides of the road the S1 & S2 are supposed to stop on at Claypath? According to BusTimes it's S1 opposite the Gala Theatre and S2 adjacent to the Gala Theatre, this afternoon both services came up Leazes Road then went up Claypath (side adjacent to the Gala Theatre) but on Monday GuyParkRoyal photographed two buses on the S2 heading down Leazes Road.

I honestly can't make out how the route for this service is supposed to work and I'm not convinced the drivers do either!

The S2 has just come down from claypath to leazes bowl, past pb car park suggesting it would have stopped on the John duck, not the gala side. Makes more sense if it's heading to the botanic gardens.

Edit: in fact no, it's displaying the wrong number. It should be S1, that way, according to the SB website.

Based on the published timetable and the information posted at the bus stands in Claypath I agree with the assumptions that you have made. In the case of my photo of YJ55 YGH, I observered that bus coming from Tesco following the GNE 20 that I was on so in my opinion the photo that I took of YJ55 YGH should have been an S1 (not S2).
The only assumption that I can make is that both buses were running late and the drivers may not have had time to change from S2 to S1. I went up to Tesco to try and get a couple of static photos of the buses changing from S2 to S1 however both buses went past Tesco at speed without stopping so destinations were not changed and in view of the heavy rain I returned to the City Centre.
I wouldn't be surprised if the S1/S2 were running late, timetable looks questionably achievable at off peak times, dread to think how it's supposed to stick to time during peak times when the services are given no extra running time.

Good grief! It'd be cheaper to just get the 6 and 64 for a return journey.

Will just be the current service 7 being re-numbered.

Same with the 20 (1, 2?) re-numbered from 70/71/72.

Variations on services 110/111/112 from the same date as well.

Ah right didn't even know the 7 existed haha - not a clue on services around there!
Noticed they got the 52, as well.

Ignore that one, it's now registered as the 70/71/72.

It's been reported elsewhere that Scarlet Band have aquired Optare Solos: YJ54UWN, NT05NBM, YN53YGY, PM04MKP, YN04LWZ all from Damory Coaches. All of which have Cummins engines and are M950's, apart from NT05NBM which is a M880SL.

Thanks
NT05NBM being no stranger to the region, being new to Leven Valley as T27BXG back in 2005 - their first low floor vehicle.
Stumbled upon some pages with more info on the S1/S2 services including fare details if anyone is interested.

The monthly Ticket prices are quite expensive compared too the range of Arriva Tickets.

Aye, for £25 per month I can buy an all of county durham, with no gaps whatsoever, plus links to newcastle, teesside, Richmond etc etc.... £28 for the whol of the North east from scabby to berwick.

Or £23 for a patchy service.

The only VFM is offered on simple day returns, but definitely not on S1/2. The 58 is bargainacious compared with the 22 from Thornley to Durham, but the S buses sound expensive compared with arriva Durham city  day tickets.
The S1/S2 are they a commercial service

No, I think they are supported. Unless they have a busy peak period that I've missed, they appear to be an enormous waste of money, too. Everyone just catches the 6.

£25 is a weekly ticket isn’t it?

No changes to current 58/58A licence on VOSA at present, however I've looked on Traveline and it would seem that the 58A will now only operate between Durham and Peterlee

Departs Durham Bus Station at: 20:05, 21:05, 22:05.
Departs Peterlee Bus Station at: 22:27, 23:27 (second trip terminates at Coxhoe).

Where does the 20.05 departure go too
21.05 would be 22.27 Return to Durham
22.05 would be 23.27 Return to Coxhoe

It would appear that I should have done more research before posting.

The 20:05 & 21:05 58A's from Durham supposedly terminate at Peterlee, however there's 58A's from Hartlepool at 21:44 & 22:44.

Can only assume they are going to run from Durham to Peterlee in service then light to Hartlepool then in service as the 58A from Hartlepool to Coxhoe/Durham.

This is all assuming that the info on Traveline is correct.
Are they the old times ?
