Not if the 142s are getting refurbished.

sorry forgot about that. it will be nice to see the in a fresh new look.

Who's said they're going to be refurbished?

Also, the next winner of the next Northern franchise has to bring 120 new non-electric 'carriages' into service by 2020. So you'd expect new DMUs to be on the cards. By the same year, Pacers wouldn't be allowed for use on the Northern franchise.

Only the one 144 in Yorkshire is getting refurbished as a trial. Nothing has been confirmed about any other units.

Is it the Porterbrook idea to bring the 144 in line within DDA regulations?

Yes I would guess that is the reason behind it. They had to ensure the correct units are in place for Monday morning of which some of the early services from Middlesbrough are 156 operated

I thought the current Northern franchise has a 'no growth' agreement; and that purchase of new rolling stock was in contravention to this so this is why they have always had second-hand stock. Otherwise this is probably why we've never had new stock sooner.

Sure I've read that before but I'm happy to be corrected.

I think the expectation was that it wasn't expected to make any money, so there'd be no money thrown at it. Whether that's what the franchisee submitted as a bid or not is another question.

I was referring to the next franchise though.

While I understand the argument for convenience, I doubt moving Cramlington Station a mere 200 metres is going to make it more 'central to the town' as a whole.

I might be wrong like!
It appears Northern Rail have provided some sort of extra capacity today? I seen a large amount of coupled Pacer's coming from Middlesbrough/Whitby at Central Station this evening.

SENRUG are unbelievable.

The existing station, is in a place which is easy to access, via road crossings etc. What SENRUG actually want is an interchange with local buses.... Right, these buses that stop almost a mile away on the other side of Manor Walks.... In a place which is 'central to the town'.

The footbridge, where they want the station to be, is actually quite a long walk from the main shopping area (Asda, Sainsbury's etc).

The existing station, is about as 'central to the town' as the proposed one.

They wanted more parking spaces at Morpeth, following a new car park. Now that Northern Rail have introduced £2 all day parking tickets, there's now loads of spaces to choose from in the old car park!

FTPE services to Morpeth? That will be a good thing as long as FTPE accept Northern tickets...

I'm not that familiar with Manor Walks or Cramlington Town Centre in general so I'm going to accept what you say is correct (not that I have any reason to doubt you, of course).

I'm all for transport integration and the positioning of interchanges which allow users to effortlessly switch between different modes of transport is key to partially achieving that aim, however, in the case of Cramlington, if the bus station is located on the other side of Manor Walks, would it not be just as easy to relocate the bus station adjacent to where the station is currently located?

The railway station is currently located at Nelson Village, about 3/4 of a mile away from the existing bus stops at Manor Walks. There is a pay and display car park, Royal Mail sorting office and houses taking up the rather limited amount of space there. Service 58 already stops close to the station at Nelson Village, moving the bus station to the railway station will be quite, well, odd as NCC will be forced to install bus stops at the north end of Manor Walks (at Sainsbury's) (if there aren't already some), as it is quite a distance to walk.

A one-under I believe. Unfortunate.
