Northern Rail are to trial free WiFi on some trains.

Already have done - the Class 333s have had a trial for a few months now. It'd be great if Northern got every train fitted with Wifi like ScotRail have (or are doing so currently) except the Fife Circle Loco-Hauled set which will be done in a few months I think.

The new Loco-Hauled services along the Cumbrian Coast start next Monday (18th May) and run Mon-Sat.
See the diagrams in the link here: http://www.railforums.co.uk/showpost.php?p=1478563&postcount=12

Note there will be bars fitted onto the droplight windows to avoid anyone's heads being knocked off Smile

Ticket-wise, the train is just a normal passenger service therefore Northern staff will be on board.

If they're leaving it at that, the poster on board a Pacer was very misleading, not like the Pacers will be getting WiFi anyway. Big Grin

All for boosting the ego for the company. Mind, if they have a big contract for Wifi I wouldn't put it past them, given the 142s and 144s will be around for a while yet!
ScotRail fit it so some, if not all 156s too. Not all super-duper flashy electric things Tongue
Incident just now in Yorkshire.
Train (presumably Northern), in collision with tractor

Details of incident last night.
150225 and another 150 involved
Well tomorrow see's the biggest makeover to Northern's operations for the last few years...
Upto 8 more diagrams will be converted to electric operation in the North West, with 10 Class 319 units seeing use on services from Liverpool to Man Airport, Victoria and Wigan NW.
Also starting tomorrow are the 2 loco hauled diagrams on the Cumbrian Coast, using Class 37 locos and Mark 2 coaches between Carlisle and Barrow/Lancaster/Preston. 6 156's will be employed on services for Transpennine Express too (though there are 7 diagrams, 2 part day and 5 all day...)

I hope they aren't taking the 156's from Heaton...

Worth the paper tickets alone, if the trips can connect

No these will be freed up by the extra 8 319 diagrams into the Liverpool area

If anyone is tempted to go on the Loco-Hauled sets, honestly do! The Mk2 coaches are really comfortable and the line is stunning, plus if you're an enthusiast there's four 37s you can get per day, at the moment anyway (until the DBSOs enter service and it becomes 1x 37/4 on each). Also it indirectly pays my wages if you do. Big Grin
just to let you know that there are some delays after a pacer broke down near cramlington

well the pacer that broke down had quite a lot of liquid pouring out of the engine

Probably just overheated or something.
Buses do exactly the same, throw coolant out etc.

Out of interest the York Potash mine near Whitby was approved today, so this will see them fund a 2nd unit for the Middlesbrough-Whitby service to be doubled.

Pacers are actually more realiable than HST's, 91's etc.

Actually, there was hell on earlier at NCL as 2 of the coaches on a 91 overheated leaving people without a seat when they had reserved etc.

That's interesting... because, according to this log on Real Time Trains, all of yesterday's services at Cramlington operated more or less on time:

Where did you hear about this break down?

Its also even more interesting that yesterday a pacer broke down and he seen liquid coming out of it and then a few days back, he seen a omnidekka up in flames on the Tyne Bridge!! and something else before that aswell, how can this guy seem to be seeing buses in flames and trains in smoke in a matter of days? PS he managed to be on a metro when the compressor blew up. A day or two after seeing a Omnidekka in flames!in a betting shop that would be 3 million to one or something!

well for starters how do you know that some trains are being converted to electric which you said previous because i asked some of the staff and they said that nothing like that has been decided yet because of various reasons. and other things are just minor issues

I haven't posted anything about trains.............. i rarely post about trains as they're not part of my hobby although occasionally i post in the Tyne & Wear Metro thread....

Really coincidental that. You are always there when something goes wrong in the transport area whether it be in Newcastle or Cramlington.
One positive thing from all of this: You are turning out to be one of the most controversial users ever.

well i am sorry if something goes wrong and i am there but for i do have to travel to work and i dont drive so what do you want to do? and i dont care what people think about me because its their opinion and i cannot change that. but if i get beaten up or threatened then thats when i do care

and i am sorry if i am doing peoples head in. the problem is and i have mentioned it many of times i have recently moved down here from Sheffield and to morpeth and i am asking people on here to see what is normal for public transport and what is not so i can keep a look out
http://www.northernrail.org/northern/your-say-survey
Northern have launched a feedback questionnaire for passengers.
No idea if it is to do with the closures today on Teesside, but passengers were treat to a 156 on the Darlo - Saltburn line. Big step up to the usual 142's.
