Something strange seems to be going on, the emergency exit doors on the Streetlites seem to not be rattling anymore...

I'm on 5456 right now and it feels fairly refined.

I'm not sure what they've done, but at idle the engine also seems a lot more smooth, no more bone shaking.

No no I agree, I was on an X66 a few weeks ago and a 49A (5454) last week and didn't even hear the rattling or feel the vibration as much from the engine.

Do you have the batteries in your hearing aids?
Have your ear drums exploded?
Have you got a bit chewing gum stuck in those lug holes?
It's all I can think of when you say that there's no rattling on a Streetlite.

They've definitely done something with the engine, it's so much smoother at idle than it used to be.
Maybe they've just set the idle higher, but it doesn't sound like it.

I was gonna say at least you can sit on the chair, but...

Anyway...

I wonder how many Streetlites they've 'fixed'. If I had more time up in Gateshead today I would have had a play around (on the buses, that is)

I'm sure someone mentioned a few years ago, that the main cause of the rattle could be resolved by tightening up something on the fire door.

I tend to have the misfortune of a Streetlite on most day tickets I do, and I'd say the vast majority still sound like they're going to fall apart mid-journey.

I'm sure if it was that simple, it would have been resolved long ago!

I have a feeling the changes they've made with regards the engine have done most of the work in resolving it, the Streetlites I've used that are 'fixed' definitely idle a lot smoother, and it was at idle that the door was at it's worst

That would definitely explain the much smoother engine, the old engine mounts must have been made from concrete!

And when we talk about encouraging people to use the bus instead of their car, you'd have to say that if your car sounded like that, you'd be taking it to the nearest garage!

That's just a standard Streetlite, they've been like that since new.

I wonder if they're going to continue modifying the rest of them, as the ones that have been 'fixed' really are a joy to ride
